Well, this has been an...interesting couple of days. Been a long time since the whole Valentines thing has really got to me.

Someone please tell me it's over?

What's wrong with Valentines day?

Nothing, in principle. It's just that, well, if you don't have someone...especially if you used to have someone...it can be lonely.

Who did you lose?

My husband. I mean it's fine, I'm sure he's still okay where he is, but...well, I've only been Vortexed a few days and I'm still getting used to him not existing in this reality...or at least, apparently not existing.

I'm sorry. I'm sure I'm not the first or last to go through this, it's just...hard, is all.

Oh, I know... my husband didn't get here for like a month after me. It sucked, you know, a lot. I lived with some vampires. Do you have somewhere to live?

Yeah, I do. The practical side's been my means of keeping my sanity so far. But thank you.

Um...don't feel you have to answer if you don't want to, but...how were things? When he did get here, I mean? Again, feel free to tell me it's none of my business if you'd rather.

Oh, great! The rest of his band is here too so they just kinda went back to their thing. My band didn't follow me which is probably for the best, the world can only take so much crazy at one time. But it was fine... that's like, how we are anyway, you know? I mean, we've lived so many places and done so many tours, it's not exactly the first time we found each other in some weird-ass place. We've been together a long time, though, we're sort of used to it.

I see. Well that's given me something to think about, at least. Thank you.

So what do you do now? I mean, with your band not here.

Yeah, it's different for everyone, though, because time's all pretzeled so sometimes someone'll notice you've been gone and sometimes it'll be like no time has passed at all and sometimes they come from YOUR future which is weird. But don't sweat it, chicka. My kid's weird pet gods told me once... they said, "The gods-who-aren't-gods are listening. They know what you want. They'll get around to it." Whatever that means. Those guys are kind of weird, and coming from me, that's saying something.

I'm a professional deadbeat. It's not very impressive. Evidently I'm supposed to be like... actually doing something with my life so I can take care of this kid I just had with this roadie chick I don't love. Also I think my whole family is really pissed at me right now. It's complicated. Anyway, I still write songs and stuff. Oh, I was a pirate for a while. I really sucked at that, though.

Your kid has pet gods? Well, that's...actually one of the more rational things I've heard since getting here. All I'll say is that I hope so, and in the meantime - no point holding back for something that could be some time coming, right?

Sounds complex. I'm not about to pry, but I'm sure the right thing for you will come along. Guess it must be hard, though, when the thing you're used to doing is suddenly snatched away.

She doesn't exactly have PET gods... or she does but sort of the same way she has a pet wizard and several other curious individuals. She owns them the way cats own people -- they hang around and do stuff for her because she's cute and fluffy you don't want to see her with her claws out. She's a pretty cool kid. I didn't even know I had a kid until I met her like a year ago, and she was 19 then.

Well, this wasn't the first time I fell out of one world and into another. Or out of one TIME and into another. 'Course, I'm not sure how well I'd handle it NOW. It was okay when I used to be drunk all the time.

Jesus, someone is calling me rational. There's one for the papers, now I know the world's gone off its head.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I've met a few people like that before. Still, at least it sounds like you get on well enough now.

Wow, well that explains a lot. Personally, I'm in no hurry to go through this again any time ever.

If it helps, I was only calling you rational in the context of that one statement. It wasn't an expectation that you are always this rational.
