And now boxing is frowned upon? What sort of civilization is this, anyhow?

Irene, do tell me you've not gotten yourself into trouble already. We've barely been in this place a month- even if the laws are the damndest things.

Well, I wouldn't say I've gotten myself into trouble, tough I wouldn't say that I haven't got myself into trouble either.

It's a shame about your boxing though.

How delightfully vague. Just where have you run off to, then?

Oh you know, around. I've hardly been the type to stay indoors and do nothing. Women actually have rights around here. It's refreshing. I don't have to marry a man to take all his money this time.

Which I'm sure has expedited the process wonderfully. Well, congratulations I suppose.

Suppose so.

Is this your way of saying you're bored and want us to entertain you?

Do I really strike you as so desperate, Miss Adler? You said yourself, this world is far progressed from our own. I'm rather certain I can find something to pass the time without your charming company. I simply wished to see if I were to be paying the rent myself, this month.

You really don't want me to answer that question, Holmes. I'm sure you can. But it seemed like you were bored.

No no, I have plenty of money to pay the rent.

Then I suppose I'll leave you to your... art.

I'll ring you when I've gotten into something up over my head again, shall I?

I would fear what would happen to the world if you didn't, Irene.

Well it is fun seeing you squirm.

As luck would have it, gambling is legalised in some areas.

I've found a House willing to take my money. You ought to see how advanced the games are these days. Dice and cards and even a spinning wheel with a marble for luck and chance.

It was never finding someone willing that was the issue, it was staving them off when they saw the error of their ways. Good God, man, in this new world of wonders, you still care to throw your money away on trivialities?

Mine are not quite so expensive, or dangerous, as yours.

Yes, of course. Boxing is in no way dangerous.

[info]sevenpercentman

Apparently not enough to afford your worry when it's funding your own vice. And frankly, it would be far more dangerous if I ever lost.

As my gambling addiction would be far more dangerous if I were unable to pay my debt.

You choose to go into the ring, Holmes.

And for the record, I do worry. Every time. But I also respect your choice to fight, and trust in your ability to win.

And you choose to go to the Houses. The difference is, at least I seem to recognize my choice is unwise. Fun, if unwise.

Why would boxing be frowned upon? Unless youre boxing in the street.

And just where else would you find a decent boxing match?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]ninjaspider

Well... typically in a boxing ring.

I guess to protect those who aren't well trained... and to prevent innocent people from getting hurt. It's this whole big thing. You can box in the street as long as you're discrete about it I'm sure.

[info]ninjaspider

I don't know. Most of the men I know these days I have fought or I'm teaching to fight. Though, most modern men, you'll find, have gone really soft.
