I'm really not good at this sort of thing, haven't needed to be yet, I'm used to history shifting, it's just that it usually does it at the normal pace, not in leaps like it's done this time, to say nothing of the different dimension.

I suppose the first thing I should do is introduce myself, my name is Stefan Salvatore, some of you have likely met my brother, since he's been here a month before me.

I'm trying to get myself caught up to the history, and this is where you all come in: What do you consider the most important or influential invention, person, or event in the past quarter century?

It's revolutionized all sorts of areas - medicine, science, art, performance, research, entertainment, communication. Without it, it's feasible to say that even personal computers wouldn't be so prevalent. Information is the new lifeblood of a huge number of industries, and it's made the world that much smaller.

Event wise, it's a bit harder - I'll admit to not having paid too much attention to see if things I knew from home had also happened here, at least the same way. But wars are fought differently because of the internet, news is handled differently - It's truly phenomenal.

Even here - we're all from different places, different times, different worlds - and without the internet, and the ability to interact with others who have dealt with the same or at least know about it, we'd be so much more lost. I know a lot of people here have grown up with it, but it's still so novel sometimes, what can be done...

Sorry... I'm Melpomene. I skipped that part.

Melpomene the muse? Or is it just an interesting coincidence? Cruel parents, perhaps?

And information has always been the coin of the realm even more than gold ever was.

No, no... that's me. The muse. What's so cruel about my name? I'm rather fond of it...

And it has, yes... but they've greatly revolutionized it. The ways people have manipulated it and targeted it is just breathtaking.

It used to be that widespread fame was rare... nowadays, those who are completely unknown are rare.

Nothing at all, for a muse, but for a human girl? What kind of parent would ... well, most of them, I suppose.

And especially so in this world, it seems, where everyone knows that the supernatural exists and most don't fear it.

It's a perfectly lovely name!

The supernatural and paranormal take a bit getting used to... and hardly anything surprises people. Which I suppose is a downside to it all... it leads to jadedness and loss of wonder.

No worse than naming a child Chastity I suppose. Or Destiny. Both of which I've always thought were quite silly things to name a child.

I suspect you're right. When the uncommon becomes common and all.

Oh, there's a huge difference between Melpomene a name whose meaning I fully live up to, and naming someone after a virtue they don't embody.

Although I'd be a bit irked if I met a mortal with my name, I suppose. It's mine. I'd like to keep it.

Wow, I'm trying to think of important events of the past 25 years, and it's really hitting home how little I pay attention to world events here, and if history is the same.

Which was really my point. It's a good name for a muse, but not for a girl.

I haven't been pulled ahead quite that far, it just seemed like a good number to start from.
