Kobie.

I don't know if it's possible when Kitt isn't KITT, but if you could do your best to locate him, I'd really appreciate it.

He um... he didn't come home last night.

I have a last-known reading from his internal transponder on the West coast at the following coordinates in California. Shortly after that, however, the transponder was disabled, rendering him invisible to most accessible satellite imagery I am able to access. I registered no internal log of distress or alarm before this occurred.

His unique brainwave signature on the other hand means that I can initiate a biological scan based on a specific search pattern around the area - though it may take me some time to render a likely location, taking into account relative population density and the variegated inhabitants of this world.

Do you believe there is something wrong?

Something wrong? Not with him, exactly. I mean, nothing more than human stubbornness at the moment.

No, don't... don't bother. If he's hiding- Nevermind.

He is not entirely human, Hattie. But I have come to realize that stubbornness is not entirely an innate human trait. Are you certain you do not wish me to locate him? Why would he be hiding from you? Have you had some form of disagreement?

Your biological signature is currently indicating high levels of anxiety. If there is something I can do to reassure you of his welfare, I will not hesitate to enact it.

We did have a disagreement. Not even that, we actually fought and I said some things that weren't very nice and HE said some things that weren't very nice.

I guess he'll just come home when he wants to.

I see. Then perhaps he is doing what many feel is necessary after such an emotional outburst, and taking some time to 'cool off' in order to better approach you in a rational manner later. I am certain that he will indeed return in due course. In the meantime, is there anything I can do?

Oh, I'm sure he is. It's just not like him to um, not call. Or to be out all night. He's just gone.

It'll be fine.

I can't think of- Actually, yeah, there might be. How do you feel about a road trip? I mean, not that there would be a lot of driving between here and there, but I was thinking of going to Giza. I wanted to look for something and your particular um, talents might come in handy.

If it will help, I will observe all your known combined secure messaging channels, including telephone, cellphone, text messaging and email, and alert you to any contact originating specifically from him.

I would be only too happy to accompany you, Hattie. I believe it would be beneficial for me to experience more of the world 'first-hand', so to speak.

I would appreciate that. Thank you, Kobie.

Perfect. Um, how do you feel about carseats?

They are intrinsically essential devices created for the safety of human infants when being transported by vehicle. I do not have feelings one way or the other, as you know.

Right.

Okay, we're bringing Gideon with us. I don't THINK we'll be gone that long, but even so. With Kitt gone, I don't want to leave him with the nanny for that long.

I'd ask if you mind, but- Nevermind. I'll pack some stuff and we'll talk on the way?

I am not entirely certain that my upholstery was detailed specifically to resist infantile emissions. I expect I shall shortly find out.
