You know, it was a joke, but really:

Say you've been... out of the tech loop for, oh, five years.

What would you have to get your hands on?

I've apparently already missed two Playstation upgrades. And these cell phones are sweet. Anything else I should be looking out for?

What? Oh, no no no. They don't literally explode. But they've gotten much more expansive, and sometimes smaller. Now they can hold something something like 30 thousand songs. laptop batteries can now last 8 hours, still providing top notch graphics. Wifi is everywhere. Fiber optics are really expanded.

I think a lot of the technology is more about making things better?

but if you're thinking like.. gadgety goodness? there's so much to choose from. I'd start with the iPhone. offers the most chance to play.

Better, or more accessible, yeah. Global Positioning, and everything- not just for the military and aliens anymore.

i...Phone? They made it into a phone? Oh, that I have to see.

And it's a touchscreen. Awesome.

Thanks for that.

Oh, it's more than a phone. It's a camera, it's a GPS, it's got G3 capabilities, it's a PDA, it's an MP3 player, it plays movies, you can buy songs on it... It's a snazzy little thing.

After that? Try the Wii. the PS3 is nice, but it's a playstation. After the shiny, it's not that different - just bigger and better. Nintendo went a whole new direction with the Wii - Very interactive.

And you're welcome. :)

...That might be enough to actually make me look for an apartment, just to keep it all in. Maybe.

Do I... know you? You seem familiar.

Mm... You might? I don't know.

I'm Melpomene. Does that help?

No, not really.

It might not have been you. I.. that happens to me a lot.

I meet a lot of people in my line of work. Where might you know me from?

I... don't know, really. You might just look familiar. I have a memory for faces, not just people I've met. Sorry.

Well.. I'm a Muse. So if you're an artistic type? It's very possible. Otherwise I keep a low profile.

But you know me know, right?

I wouldn't say I'm artistic. But...

Wait, you're tragedy, right?

Ha.

That's funny?

I don't sing much. And it's more ironic, than anything, but yeah. You could say that.

Mmm... I get a lot of that. But it's all good. As long as someone's entertained. That's always the goal.

It's nice to meet you, Melpomene. I'm Tobias.

Hey. Without the tragedy, the laughter doesn't mean as much.

Or some other suitably pithy comment of your choice.

It's a pleasure to meet you, Tobias.

Hey, if the cliche'd shoe fits.

The pleasure's mine. I'm pretty sure this is the longest conversation I've had with someone not an- one of my friends, in a long time.

I'm always good for a conversation. Well, not always. But often.

Are your friends here, as well? I'm guessing you're new.

That's a lot more than I can say.

Yeah. At least, some of them. And is it that obvious?

Oh, I think you're doing just fine at conversation.

Friends here are good... it can be a bit of a shock. More than a shock for some, I guess.

As for obvious, the not having heard of an iPhone sort of clued me in. But we were all new once. Except the ones born here, of course.

Oh, no problem!

If you need anything, people here are generally willing to help.

Take care of yourself. And good luck.
