I will be moving next week. I am dreadfully nervous, though they have been teaching me things to cope with living on my own.

Ms. Torres will be checking in on me each day and I am going to go to the flower shop soon, too.

I have been feeling well, and thinking clearly, for the most part. There are hard days sometimes, but if I keep myself calm, I can get through it.

I am looking forward to spending a lot of time in my sunroom, tending my plants, and having friends over to visit.

Darius and I went for a walk to see it a few days ago...it's really quite lovely.

I'll be glad to have you over any time.

Cool!

Whenever you feel comfortable after moving, I will come over for snacks and movies.

That sounds pleasant.

I have a sunroom, with lots of plants. They're very nice. I'm looking forward to having privacy too. That's a novel idea. There was never much privacy where I was from.

Sweet! It sounds really nice!

And I hope you enjoy it. You deserve a good home.

Thank you. I appreciate that.

I am sure it will be fine! And if you need anything, we can go shopping for it together.

And I shall see more of the world, in turn.

That is something we should plan to do.

Great! Would you like some help getting the house ready to live in?

I have been very well. I am becoming comfortable with the idea of living on my own.

I am looking forward to it.

I'm glad. You'll do well, Ophelia. I hope you enjoy it.

You're doing better than me. I still live with my family, even though I suppose I could do otherwise.

If it becomes too much for you, or the weather becomes too dismal, would you like to take a vacation together? See the world a little? A friend of mine gave me an idea for something to do over the summer, but I'd like to do a few test runs first, with friends.

Well, if I had anything resembling family here, you know I'd be living with them. Though perhaps it is good that I am on my own.

That sounds wonderful. I would like to see some of the world. Now that I know there is a world outside of Denmark.

Cool! I'll have to take you someplace fairly nice, at first. Would you like me to bring you books about a few of the warmer countries, and we can figure out where we want to go together? That way, when things get too bad, we'll have all the planning and things done.

Me too. But first things first, we need to clean up a bit. I'll stop by later in the week and we can walk to your house together.

It will be a pleasure, Ophelia. :D

*giggle* I am sure. However it works, I am sure it must be better than scrubbing floors on one's knees.

Good, because that was the one chore I always hated. Knees do not have much padding, and stone floors are hard.

I agree on both counts. The carpet should be much easier on your body, on the whole.

Good to know.

I'm moving next Monday. I'm very excited.

And apparently, I have an automobile.

Not that I'd drive the thing.

There might not be a need, really, unless you intend to travel around town a lot.

And that's a skill that can be learned in time.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]love_remember
2008-12-10 02:31 pm UTC (link)
The flower shop is only one city block away. I will walk that.

I'm sure I could learn...but I am not sure I want to. Traffic is terrifying in the city.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]dasummers
2008-12-10 02:32 pm UTC (link)
I agree. I learned because I had to, but that was a different world. Here I seldom have the need to drive. I take public transit a lot.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]love_remember
2008-12-10 02:37 pm UTC (link)
It is very interesting about that public transit. But then...I am sure there was not a need before things got so...big.

One does not need public transit, I suppose, when one does not travel more than a mile from where one was born.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]dasummers
2008-12-10 02:39 pm UTC (link)
No. That's not a terribly long walk. But these days, everything you need is well beyond the doors of your personal home.

[info]love_remember

It seems so! And no one kills their own meat anymore.

I find it very strange. Things are so different. People take care of each other around here much more than back home. It seems that way to me, anyway.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]dasummers
2008-12-10 02:47 pm UTC (link)
Not all of them, and not all of the meat they take in, no. I've gone hunting before, and it's interesting, if not necessarily my thing. Though I do enjoy fishing.

I think that is true, to some extent. Families seem to be more divided, though.

Hmm...It occurs to me that I have only seen the city...I suppose not all of the world is like this. At least I hope not.

Hmm...I do not know about families so much. Mine was...not usual.

My family isn't usual, either.

We shall rememdy that lack of world experience!

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]love_remember
2008-12-10 08:03 pm UTC (link)
Being free. Not having anyone to tell me what I'm doing is wrong, having time to myself to think, finally.

I suppose that it's silly, but the thought of being alone in a house and having it be very quiet is a very nice thing.

[info]dasummers

It's not silly at all. It's a good thing. Independence is important, especially here, where you don't have a brother, father, or husband to rule your life.

Congratulations, Ophelia. This is a really good thing.

[info]love_remember

I think it is too!

It is far too easy to depend on a brother or father to do your thinking for you! Believe me, that was all I wanted when I first came here.
