WHO: Cassidy and Carly
WHERE: New York
WHEN: FORWARD-DATED: February 8, 2016; early afternoon
WHAT: Apartment hunting in the big city!
The air was cold, her breath kept coming out in visible puffs in front of her. Winter wasn't usually her favorite season, but this year she appreciated it so much. Snow and cold air were a welcome change from being trapped on a tropical island for over a year. February probably wasn't the best time to apartment hunt either, but the ad in the paper had made the place sound right up their alley (view of the park! Lots of windows and open space! And though it wasn't in the ad specifically, there was a great bakery about two blocks away). Plus the crummy studio they were staying in now was starting to feel smaller and smaller, the lack of their things in the space still made it feel like they were in limbo. All in all, Cassidy was just ready to get their new life really started. Maybe that was partly because she'd spent the day before on the phone with her former chief, who'd called to tell her that the paramedic on third shift was moving to a different station. It wasn't exactly her old job, but it was so much closer than the shifts in the ER. Which were great, she was so grateful to have landed that gig a few months ago, but she missed the rig. She missed the guys, who she wouldn't be working with again (yet) but she'd get to see them between shift changes at least. There were kinks to work out, but there had been a definite pep in her step every since. Which remained true despite how cold her hands were right now. Turning slightly as she walked, since the sidewalk wasn't nearly as crowded as it could have been, she aimed a wide smile at her girlfriend. "We still have fifteen before we're suppose to be there, wanna get a coffee first?" Holding her hands out, she wiggled her gloved fingers at Carly. "My hands and nose are cold." Despite the complaint, her tone and expression remained quite jovial. |
