"I would say," and she paused like she was really giving it some thought. "That doesn't surprise me in the slightest, actually." Her answering grin was much more apparent. "Got to take your wins where you can get them." Silver linings, that was right up Cass' alley.
"Only when she feels like it." Think about her cousin's sometimes grumpy nature made Cassidy smile in the way only people you adored really could. "If you do rile her up though, leave me out of it. I don't need a grumpy cousin deciding to growl at me too!" But there was laughter in her voice. His innocent expression did nothing to calm her amusement. "That's incredibly sneaky of you. Now I'm questioning if those are even really your boots." Not really, but it was amusing to tease. There was little else to do to keep the mood lighthearted. "Yeah, me too." What decent person wouldn't though? "You'll like her, she's my partner in crime against our grumpy family members." His apology was met with a small smile of thanks. "It sucks, but she's going to be fine. Just like you and most of the people in here." Sheer stubborn optimism was a crutch.
"If that's the case I can't imagine the drama that unfolds at Thanksgiving dinner." Soaps and talk shows were staple background noise at the station so Cass had definitely watched a few. "You could be missing out of the love of your life." 1000% teasing him. "I think that's usually reserved for bigger hardships than cute girls flinging themselves at you, but sure. We can go with that." Cassidy just chuckled, shaking her head at him. "I'm not sure if that's better or worse actually."
"How does a person get into that? I mean, did you just wake up one morning and thin 'yep, today I'm going to sit on an angry bull just because I can'?" Contrary to how the words could be taken, there was no judgement behind the question. Cassidy was genuinely curious. "So it's more of an unwritten rule then? Born and raised. I know, the attitude seems all wrong, but you haven't seen me in traffic." She didn't need to, to know the answer but she paused to consider it anyway. "I can honestly say I can not recall ever having run into a cowboy back home. The accent a few times, but not the whole deal." Grinning, "Means you're about as rare as a unicorn in my world. And yes, now I'm picturing you riding around on a unicorn tipping your hat at swooning ladies."
