A bright smile quirked up the corners of Sydney’s mouth as she glanced behind her to look at Christien. “Thankfully you have me now, so no more terribly boring life.” She almost sing-songed this, playing up the bright and chipper act mostly for laughs - because in her opinion Chris needed to laugh more often and worry less - especially while on potentially dangerous adventures with her.
“Did you really just ask that?” Sydney asked. “It’s like you don’t even know me.” She feigned shock and horror at the question. Truth be told most people thought she needed a little less excitement in her life, or one person did, that person was her mother though, so in her opinion it didn’t count. “Apology accepted.” She had a feeling he wasn’t really sorry though, she knew him well enough to make that assumption. “Again, you don’t know that. I could have an off day or you could be some kind of boxing savant.” Sydney mad note that he still hadn’t said no, which meant she was definitely going to get him to at least try boxing one of these days.
“And what if the pretty girl I wasn’t talking about wasn’t me, which by the way, thank you for boosting my ego just now.” In truth she had no idea if there was a woman on this island that Christien fancied, but that didn’t make it any less fun to poke at him about this a little bit. “You’re blushing,” Syd pointed out with a grin. “Is there a girl?” Did prying for information mean she was turning into her mother? “You reference the brochure and when you find something that’ll drive Evan crazy, I’m totally in. I’ll even get it all on video for you.”
Sydney stuck out her bottom lip for a moment in a pout. “You make it sound like I drag everyone on crazy adventures, like all the time,” She could barely keep up the pouting act for long before she was smiling again. “Which I do, so I guess I have to give you that. Think I come with a warning anyway, ‘beware of adrenaline junkie - she will drag you into her crazy.’ or something like that.”
“I might,” she agreed with a laugh. “But I haven’t gotten you killed yet, so by now you really should trust me.” Sydney declared as if it was the most obvious thing a person should do. “Or why not both? I bet we’ll be on the island long enough to see both.” While it wasn’t going into the middle of the Kamong jungle, in it’s own way it was Christien’s version of a crazy adventure and so she definitely supported the idea.
There wasn’t much of a crowd at the lighthouse, which was nice since every other tourist thing they had done had involved a slew of people pressing in on all sides. Frankly it made Sydney feel like they hadn’t left Los Angeles, which was not really the feeling she was going for with this vacation. “That almost sounded like you might be telling me you enjoyed it,” Or maybe that was just how she was choosing to interrupt it. “And now you’re suggesting climbing that hill in the dark, oh my God, I’m wearing off on you.” Sydney practically beamed at him as he reached around her to open the door. “Ready for the climb up the stairs now?” She asked as she stepped into the lighthouse and waited for him to join her.
