It was hardly the first time that she had poked fun at him, it would hardly be the last time. If he hadn't already been so comfortable with her due to years of friendship with his older brother and then himself the teasing likely would have made him blush harder. As it was, Christien responded in a very similar manner by heaving a long suffering sigh. "I do not know what I would do without your selflessness, Sydney." His teasing might not always be as obvious, but she knew him well enough to see the statement for what it was.
"If you find such excitement in this, I am certain I could simply throw marbles into your path back at the huts for much the same effect." But again, he wasn't really even being serious. "If that is what it wishes to do, I do not plan to stop it." He lifted one shoulder, but didn't think she was really very concerned by the possibility. He could have been living up the French stereotype of drinking win and smoking nonstop, so really it could have been a lot worse. "Perhaps for you, but I am not morally opposed to sitting still." He reached up to push the hair off his forehead, not quite sure what to make of the question. "I would hardly be a challenge," he decided to point out instead of giving a yes or no to the request.
Christien shook his head. "Oui, lesson very learned. I will happily avoid the boats from now on." Sometimes it was probably easy to forget, but he was a younger sibling and the idea of giving his older brother a slightly hard time did hold some appeal. "I am sure that I could convince him we should do something over the next few days, but only if you wish to join us." It'd be more fun with her help, that he was certain of.
"Not very well," he admitted. "I suspect that if you ask Evan would be able to tell you all the ones that would be of interest to you though. Or perhaps your sister will just now them already." He knew enough to know she'd been on the island awhile now. His breathing wasn't exactly even, but Chris wasn't doing terrible at keeping up with her. "I am surprised you have not simply chosen to drag everyone along so you could explore then." His own smile flashed brightly, before fading back to his look of concentration.
It was easier to walk as they got closer to the lighthouse, more smooth spots to focus his steps toward. It made it easier to focus on the distracting conversation instead. "Or is this meant to be you beginning that process? The lighthouse today, traipsing into the jungle to get lost tomorrow?"
