WHO: Abram and Peyton
WHERE: Lab quarantine.
WHEN: March 12th, 2015, early morning.
WHAT: Abram volunteers for security detail and drops in on Peyton to see how she's doing.
The sun had just barely risen by the time Abram had reached the lab building. Concern and worry were bubbling up inside of him, though nobody would have been able to tell that fact just by looking at him. Staying calm and collected was a true talent of his, and if ever there was a time to use that talent, well today was a fitting one. After what felt like an ungodly amount of time spent telling the volunteers what was expected of them while they worked security, they were released to make their rounds and generally keep an eye on things. While his main reason for volunteering had been to help out, he would be lying if he didn’t admit to being here in order to see Peyton. He wouldn’t wish being stuck in quarantine on his worst enemy, so it was doubly hard for him to face the fact that someone who was basically family to him was inside the lab. His thoughts kept drifting to what might happen to her, but he quickly chased them away. He had made it out of quarantine and so would Peyton. Abram knew that bridge would need to be crossed if they came to it. But he was stubbornly holding onto the idea that they wouldn’t come to it. Peyton would walk out of this building alive and that was that. He was well aware she might find his stubbornness either comforting or silly - he was banking on it being comforting. The first hour of his time in quarantine had seemed to drag on for what felt like days. Abram had been as cordial and kind to the other inhabitants as he could be, offering a smile and his sympathy if someone happened to actually speak to him. For the most part security were silent observers though, here to do one job. A job he continued to hope would be unneeded. Soon enough though he was free to search out Peyton and accomplish his true reason for taking one this job. Seeing that she was okay was his main priority. As he approached the area in which he knew he might find her, Abram tried to calm himself down so that he wouldn’t come off as worried or overprotective. She was likely already worked up, he didn’t need to add to her stress. He had to admit he could face a lot of things without being worried...but the idea of losing a family member (which is what she was to him) well, that set him on edge. Reaching Peyton’s room, Abram paused in the doorway and rapped his knuckles against the frame of the door. “Knock, knock,” Her back was turned to him, so he hadn’t wanted to startle her. He also spoke softly, well aware of the time and not wanting to disturb the other inhabitants of the lab. “Mind if I join you?” |
