WHO: Peyton and Kendall
WHEN: [forward-dated] March 11th, 2015; during the zombie chaos
WHERE: The resort
WHAT: Zombies happen. Peyton and Kendall get caught in it and have it out a little.
Poor timing. That’s what Peyton had stumbled into. She’d been sleeping in the stable for the last couple of days because one of the pigs seemed to be having problems, and as little as she knew about caring for them in an emergency she had still felt compelled to stay and keep watch over the poor thing. In the end whatever it was had cleared up, and she had decided to make a trip back to her space at the resort, making get a shower while she was there. She had used the makeshift camp shower they had set up in the stables, but it wasn’t quite the same as being able to use the showers in the hotel, she still had dirt and grime in a few places.
Any thoughts of showering and cleaning up where squelched pretty suddenly when she realized there was some kind of event going on. The only thing she sussed out from the panicked woman in the lobby was that there was some kind of something going on on some of the upper floors of the hotel. Her floor specifically had been mentioned, so Peyton felt compelled to check it out and see what kind of event there was.
What she hadn’t been prepared for was the sheer number of people wedged into the hallway and the stairs, of the cacophony of doors being slammed open and closed. Not a single person seemed to have the time to explain anything to her, so instead she took some of the stairs two at a time and ended up a floor above her own, where it seemed like the most of the chaos was centered.
It was too late to turn around by the time someone moved past her in a hurry muttering about people turning. Peyton couldn’t be sure, but she thought she’d heard the word Pouncer thrown out there. Dread slithered into her stomach; that wasn’t the kind of chaos she was built for. Before she could make a decision she was pushed into the hall, the screams and raised voices registered almost immediately. The body shambling towards her registered a minute later and she scrambled for her knife, her hands shaking as she dared to glance away to see if she couldn’t just duck back out again, but her way was blocked.
There were too many people trying to get out and too many people trying to get in to lend some aid. Peyton side-stepped, her hands shaking too much to sink her knife properly, so she maneuvered to send the zombie away from her, overbalancing herself and stumbling into another body and the wall as she tried to correct her balance.
“Good lord,” she muttered, taking a deep breath in through her nose, steadying her hands as the thing came back her way. Unfortunately it seemed it was hell bent on making her food. She kicked it away, stumbling again, shaking the thing off as it almost got purchase on her arm; she felt it’s fingertips scrape against her skin and glanced in panic before she kicked at it even harder and sent it into another body near them.
