Nate laughed. "You're really just looking to climb this thing, huh?" His tone was light. The other man had a point, they could just climb it if the gates didn't open.
Raising an eyebrow, Nate studied Judah for a good long minute. "My height has nothing to do with it," he began. "Some of us were just born talented." His expression was smug, and he could almost hear his younger sister voice in his mind saying 'your ego is showing.'. "Oh yeah? You think so?" Now wasn't really the time to have some kind of pissing contest - even if it was in good fun - yet Nate still found himself responding. "I'm sure you could have."
For some reason whenever things went in their favor it always made Nate nervous. Luck seemed in short supply, so he wasn't holding his breath when it came to whether or not stiffs were behind the gates. He didn't voice his thoughts though as Judah pressed his ear to it.
"Right, you mentioned that." Nate hadn't meant his earlier remark as an insult. To be honest he missed working on a team, the guys at his firehouse were like family. "You seem pretty sure of yourself," To be fair he probably had more climbing experience. "Or you're just trying to avoid defeat." Just because Nate knew Judah was the better qualified one for this didn't mean he was going to let the other man know that.
When it seemed like Judah had a handle on how he'd get himself up there, Nate just nodded. "I can do that," he responded. Shooting a glance over at Ty who still seemed to be doing a remarkable mime act. "Need anything else?" He asked, following behind Judah as he approached the gate again.
Nate kept his gaze trained on Judah during his ascent up the gate. Breathing out a sigh of relief as the other man made it to the top. A fall from that high likely wouldn't have killed him, but Nate was relieved they weren't testing out that theory.
Although he couldn't hear Judah, the man's body language alone have Nate the feeling that the news of what the yard in the other side looked like wouldn't be good. Probably meant stiffs, which Nate could deal with - but he preferred to do that when he was looking for a fight.
"Knew we wouldn't have been lucky enough for the place to be clear," Nste called back. "Want to head instead or go back to resort?"
