WHO: Celia and Judah
WHERE: The jungle
WHEN: November 19, 2014
WHAT: NBD, just a little bit of murder.
Killing was too easy. Squeezing that trigger, watching the life drain away. Whether alive or reanimated, a corpse was a corpse. The only difference now was, some had the power to reveal the lab’s mistakes and get her killed in the process. She wasn’t about to let that happen. A quiet pop and Higgins dropped, red blossoming on her chest where the bullet went through. The woman only cried out once. Landing facedown was an added bonus to the whole ordeal. It meant Higgins had a very good chance of suffocating, too, considering she was struggling to even turn her head. From the sounds coming from the throat, it sounded like Celia had hit a lung. “So much for throwing me to the wolves, eh, dollie?” Detaching the silencer from her Glock, she returned it and the gun to the shoulder holster she’d taken off a dead police officer while in the city. She was still getting used to the new gun placement, but it was far better than stuffing it down the back of her pants. Voices appeared in the distance, and Celia felt a jolt of surprise. The shot hadn’t been loud, neither had the call for help, but they were near the village. Had someone heard the conflict, after all? Celia had no way of knowing how many people were headed her way. Shooting them down didn’t seem wise. Making a snap decision, Celia crouched down beside the body and rolled it over. There was no sympathy in her eyes when she met those of Higgins, and it was clear she wasn’t about to get any actual help, but she had to look like she was trying to save a life, rather than taking it. She applied pressure to the wound, more than was obviously necessary, and grit her teeth when the woman cried out again, gurgling on her own blood. Torture - because that’s what this was, wasn’t it? - was hard to stomach, but in a game of life versus life, Celia valued her own more. |
