Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
O:
WHO: demelza robins, jack sloper (mentions andrew kirke, avery spinks)
WHEN: tuesday evening.
WHERE: on the streets.
WHAT: demelza and jack walk home from a night out.
RATING: xxx for creating porno.
STATUS: in progress

What had started out as a quiet, lone night in had turned into a nightly outing in a club where the music was blearing too high and the alcohol was too tasty to refuse. Demelza would have been perfectly happy just sitting at home, eating some popcorn and perched in front of the television, but Avery had told her to dress nice and come with her because they hadn’t gone out since last week. After whining and complaining and telling her she didn’t want to go, she eventually ended up going. At that exact moment, Andrew had called to inform how she was doing and to finish his stupid blonde joke, and to shush him she’d invited him and Jack along. She had thought about inviting Terry and James too, but didn’t want to disturb the two from not having sex. And thus, the foursome had gone on their way. And it’d been fun, for a while, to dance with Avery, Jack, Andrew, people she didn’t know but ended up giving her their numbers which she thanked them for with a smile that plainly said she never would. But, around twelve-ish, she had just had enough of it.

So when she’d told Avery that she was tired and was going to go home, it came to no surprise that the other girl wasn’t as willing to go and asked her to stay. After telling her no and having to withstand and not cave into the pleads and the pouting, she’d told Avery to go on and stay without her and that she’d be fine going off on her own. After a couple are you sure’s, the Spinks went on with her dancing and mingled back into the crowd. Taking her things, she’d gone to look for Jack, only to notice him approach her seconds later. He’d told her that he didn’t feel like staying either after she’d told him she was tired and offered to walk her back home like the gentleman she knew he was on the odd occasions, which she’d gladly accepted. After telling Andrew, whom decided to stay to ‘watch after Boozy over there’, they’d gone on their way. After the fresh air had hit her gently into the face, she’d waited until Jack was a couple steps ahead of her before taking a leap on his back, arms entwining around his neck as she demanded a piggy back ride.

And that’s how she was now, seated on Jack’s back as he carried her home, her head comfortably sat on his shoulder. It was dark, the skies having turned pitch black, but due to the street lights she could still see him and have her hands mess with his hair to entertain her. They were about halfway home, still had about fifteen minutes to walk, and she vaguely wondered whether his feet weren’t tired from carrying her weight but thought he’d tell her if he was. Their conversation, which had been about Andrew tripping over his own feet when he danced, had come to a halt and she looked ahead of them, seemingly endless streets going on and on. Her legs were cold and she wondered why she didn’t take a coat or something else or hell, even worn something that covered them up but no, she didn’t, and now Avery was going to pay.

“I’m not really tired,” she confessed all of a sudden, even though if she was being honest she could fall asleep if she wanted to. “I just wanted to get out of there.” Her fingers tugged at his hair, placing a kiss on top of it afterwards with a loud mwuah. “Besides, now I get to spend some quality time with you,” and that was always a good thing. Her lips curled into a smile before minutes later it turned into a frown. “I hope Ave’s all right, though. Andrew’s known for getting distracted by something pretty.”

He wondered if everything would stay like this forever. If Andrew and Jack would continue to be a success even when they entered their mid twenties and released a tenth album or something. Would Avery and Andrew still be so strange with each other in the future, or would they be settling down with their second child? Would he and Demelza still have time to wander around at night time with – “A heart shaped leaf?” he quizzed, not actually being able to see a damned thing in the dark now that she had crowded his vision with the item. He caught a glimpse of the object before she gave it a home in her bag. To him it looked like a cow pat. But he wasn’t going to voice that, and instead, just nodded and gave a slow hum of approval. Sure, heart shaped leaf.

“Epic as in,” he paused “actually yeah. That’s enough.” He didn’t want to conjure up some other scene involving his two good friends – he didn’t want to have to push the images out of his mind whenever he next saw them. It wouldn’t be weird if Andrew came home with lipstick on his collar. Jack wanted to verbally agree with her on her famous comment but his mouth wouldn’t open. Because he loved being famous. The thrill of the stage, the piercing screams, the banners – oh, the banners. The only thing that made him have a short second of doubt was how time consuming everything was. The fans were crazy but that was what the barriers were for and the press twisted words together to form lies but it never bothered him much. So long as he, his friends and his parents all knew the truth it didn’t matter. “You’re always welcome to come on tour with us, Dee.” It was the truth; he liked it when she came on the last one they went on. Without Demelza there he would still enjoy it (because Andrew was an endless entertainment machine) but just not as much. He failed to find the words to explain it to himself, to help him to understand why being away from Dee on tour would be hard. “And I’ll ignore all hints of mermaidness.” He commented quickly.

Would he ever live that down? Probably not when Dee was concerned. His hands tightened their grip over her legs and he held her closer to him. “Do you want my jacket to keep your warm or anything?” He hadn’t felt her shiver against him but he knew she would probably be cold, seeing as she was acting as his human wind shield. Tonight Jack was offering no end to his gentlemanly duties – walking the girl home, giving her a lift, and now offering her warmth. What would be next?

“Epic as in, having babies and naming them after us. Jack and Demelza Kirke-Spinks!” Well, that sounded entirely wrong. “Okay, I’ll stop.” She didn’t want a repeat of their conversation about blood and free willy’s. “I don’t want to be a Kirke or a Spinks,” she then continued, musing to herself. And she doubted either Andrew or Avery would want it, either. She’d settle for a middle name. As their conversation switched from their friends that they left to fend after themselves to the tour that she knew Pinball Wizard would have to make once their album was out and about, she couldn’t help but sulk a little. Touring was bad, staying was good.

“I would, if I could get off work,” that was half of a lie, because even though she did want to go, she didn’t at the same time. She’d get eaten alive by fans and media, especially because their new album would probably become a huge hit and everyone would go crazy about it now that they were actually known with the muggles and wizard and witches. “I’ll miss you, though. How will I go on?” probably like last time when their week on the tour was over, but the two boys still had to be off for another week. She had worried about his safety (and Andrew’s, but Jack’s a little bit more) even though nothing could happen to him, but when he’d returned home without as much as a scratch, she had happily attached herself to him for about an hour, babbling like crazy about what he’d missed (her period) and how he should never leave again, even when she knew he would. Tugging on a few hair strands again, she re-ordered the hair neatly. “Maybe I should pretend an illness and just not go to work for about a week, and then I’ll drag Ave with us, and maybe Terry and James if they can get off work, and we’ll have another tour with the Scooby gang!” Meaning the six of them, and not the actual Scooby Doo cartoon. “This time I get the big and best bed, though.”

She wisely didn’t comment anymore on the mermaid topic, clicking her tongue against the roof of her mouth in an attempt to stop herself from saying something rude. She didn’t like them, with their beautiful colored fins and pretty, flowing hair. Okay, so she liked Ariel, and the Little Mermaid, and the bracelet on her arm that Terry had given her as an apology, but not the mermaid that had kissed Jack. “I’m not that cold,” another lie, she was on a winning streak today! As if to prove herself wrong, goosebumps made themselves known on her arm, and she released his neck to rub her arms over each other. “Okay, I am. So if you’re not cold, I’d love your jacket. Let me get down,” After a bit of fumbling, her feet landed on the pavement, and she shuffled from one feet to another to keep moving and hold some heat.

Jack knew it was hard for everyone to just fall into a walking pace behind him and Andrew with the band. He hated that they all had other commitments to see to first, such as jobs. With Jack, he could take a holiday when he wanted (even thought it would cost him valuable time but he could do it), he could take a break; he was doing something he loved so it never felt like a chore. “Quit work.” He huffed, disappointed that her work was getting the upper hand on the situation. “Become a groupie.” That seemed to be his solution to pretty much everything these days. Hate work? Hate life? Here, become a groupie for Pinball Wizard. Having said that, he really didn’t want her to take it seriously, as he didn’t like to imagine Demelza being even remotely groupie-like. “Or don’t.” He added as soon as his mind was made up. “I don’t think I could ever shag a groupie.” His tone was mild, thoughtful; his brain running through the pictures fans sent him of them. Only a select few caught his attentions and that was only because they weren’t scantily clad – was Jack gay? – they actually held some sort of significance to the band.

“Will you come to one of our shows, though?” he hoped she would. He’d give her backstage passage so that she could help him stay calm before he strode on the stage as if he owned the place. No sooner than he’d said it, did she struggle down his back and back onto the pavement. He shrugged off his jacket, not minding that he’d soon be the one with the goose bumps layering his arms. Jack wrapped the item over her shoulders and patted it there. “Better?” he asked with a smirk. The jacket looked far too big on her, even though in reality he wasn’t so big himself. With lack of anything to do with them, Jack shoved his hands inside his jean pockets. Not only would they have just hung uselessly by his side, but they might have even tried to grab onto hers. He found it harder to stop himself from doing intimate things with her recently. And this needed to stop. She was his best friend, she was Demelza, and she was probably not interested in him that way either.

He began to walk again, this time his feet took slower strides, no longer set on getting home. He just wanted to wander for as long as he could even if it meant that they stayed out until three am and saw Avery and Andrew stumble home. If they even made it that far. “I’ve got that damn song stuck in my head.” He whinged, slumping his shoulders forward. It was some club tune that had strong club beats and annoying hamster voices to back it up. And yet, as annoying as it was, it was contagious and he was humming it already, adding a little bump to his step as he moved down the path.

“If I quit work, who would patch you up?” She’d often acted like their personal healer and couldn’t think of anyone else who would go through their crazy antics. From falling into the crowds and stripping on stage to just mingling with a few fan girls that wanted to tear their clothes off themselves, it was no wonder they were famous. Not only was their music pretty much awesome, the two boys were also awesome themselves. She couldn’t help but utter a laugh when he said he could never shag a groupie. “Luckily for me,” wait, that came out wrong. “Because now I don’t have to see you with a groupie?” this was quickly said after, and her hand moved over her other arm rather awkwardly. Great, she had just pretty much said it was lucky she wasn’t a groupie or else he wouldn’t shag her. “Besides, if I was a groupie, I would have to worship Andrew too, and I’m not sure if he’ll ever let me live that one down.” Or Avie, for that matter. She’d call her crazy.

“Of course I will,” she smiled up at him, easing into a slower tempo as they continued their way home. “Just try stopping me. I bet your guards will be sick of seeing me there all the time.” The jacket felt nice, too big for her but warm and cozy and it smelt just like Jack, which reminded her of the fact he was now walking without anything to shield him from the chilly weather. “Yes, thank you,” she confirmed it was indeed better, beaming up at him. “You’re not too cold now?” she enquired concernedly, furrowing her brows. “If you are, you can have your jacket back.” Even though it was nice and comfortable and she’d sulk a little if she had to walk around in the cold again, but she didn’t want him to become ill, either. Her eyes lowered just when he stuck his hands inside of his pockets, ignoring the feel of disappointment crawling up at her. They’d walked hand in hand before on some occasions, it wasn’t anything special, but now that she couldn’t it felt strange. Instead, her arm looped through his, holding his arm with her hand as the path continued on.

“Talking about songs,” she grinned, waiting a tad just to hear him hum, before continuing with a bump against his hip. “Are you going to let me listen to the album yet?” batting her lashes and putting up her best smile, she hoped this could persuade him to. He’d let her listen to their first album weeks before release, and she had known the songs before anyone else had. This time, however, the album was about to be released and he still hadn’t allowed her to hear any of it. “Please, please, please? I’ll even let you go on one date with that mermaid chick!”

Jack couldn’t stop the smirk from etching across his features. It started in his forehead and then, like a disease, it fell to his eyes, cheeks and then finally his lips. There was no need to hire a paramedic when they went on tour, so long as Demelza was within reach they could always rely on her to patch them up after a nasty trip over a wire (or in his case, his own foot). “You don’t need to be a healer to heal me, Dee.” He stated, quite intelligently. He knew nothing about the healing business but he was sure that she’d be able to at least kiss it better and that was all he needed. Not a mothering kiss, but a Demelza kiss.

“No, you keep it.” He was seriously feeling fine. He knew his body was cold but for some reason he couldn’t feel it at all. To him, his body was like a volcano full of lava. “And my bodyguards will probably stop bothering to inspect you after a while.” He rolled his eyes, remembering one comment Eddie had made (one of their bodyguards) after her allowed Demelza in after their seventh small gig. He was glad she didn’t like the idea of being a groupie, and snorted when she mentioned that it would mean having to worship Andrew too. They had enough fans already kissing the ground he walked on and breathing the air he farted into. Fans were the strangest specimen of human – they were like a whole new species. They never acted human; their language consisted of only a few words and most of the time they just screamed.

His arm instinctively hugged her arm closer to his body. He soaked up her heat and kept her close to him, trying to pace his feet with hers so that they didn’t struggle with the weight of holding onto each other. Jacks cheeks flushed when the mermaid scenario was mentioned again and he found himself shaking his head before he could stop himself. “I’ll pass. You can just listen to the album free of charge.” Another smile walked across his lips and he squeezed her quickly. “It isn’t totally completed. I’ll have to talk it through with Andrew first. But I swear, apart from me and Andrew and our team, you’ll be the first.” It was like Dee was the spoiled girlfriend and Jack was the rich boyfriend that loved to spoil her. Minus the attachment. “I hope you’ll like it.”

Her eyes were focusing on their feet, trying to walk in the same line as him, eventually trying to step on his feet, pretty much holding what she’d call a foot battle, which was usually done when seated. She was in a rather joyous mood, which she effortlessly blamed on the fact there was alcohol in her system instead of on something else or someone else near her. “Aw, that’s so sweet.” she laughed, giving his arm an affectionate squeeze. “If that was a pick up line, I’d so go for it.” But only because it was Jack. If anyone else would have said it, she would have given them a dirty look and left them standing there. Yeah, she was biased.

“Are you sure?” she pressed on, giving him a look that plainly said he shouldn’t lie for her well being. “If you get sick I’d blame myself and cry myself to sleep, just so you know.” Her head leant against his shoulder, wishing she was a few good inches taller as she often did around him. Smiling amusedly, she recalled the first gig she’d gone to, when she had just walked backstage without a care in the world and had three bodyguards flailing themselves on her. Jack had gone somewhere and she’d been stuck with Andrew, who had told them he had no idea who the hell she was with the biggest grin on his face. Eventually, when she began telling everyone his dirty little secrets, he’d ushered her in himself and she had flung herself at Jack, who had walked in just at that moment, pecking his face full of kisses and squealing at how totally awesome the two of them were. “I think that one dude with the black hair likes me, because he actually smiled last time I visited.” Yes! Victory.

Her arms raised in the air, taking his with hers, to express her obvious happiness at the fact she could listen to the album. And if Andrew didn’t agree to it, she’d sick Avery on him. “You’re the best,” her smile was wide with enthusiasm, releasing her hold on his arm and instead wrapping one arm around his back and the other around his waist, stumbling a bit as her feet continued moving while she embraced him. “And you’re also a teddy,” her voice was slightly muffled as the words were spoken against his shirt, pulling back to tilt her head and placing her chin on his shoulder. “I’m sure I’ll like it, and I’ll give my honest opinion on it,“ she moved her head for a nod, knowing that she would probably have the CD on repeat once it came out. Smiling gently at him, she spoke clear and proudly, “I’m glad you’re doing something you love.”

He really hadn’t aimed for his words to sound like that. A cheesy pick-up line, that’s what he sounded like now when he ran the words through his head. Now she had said it, he couldn’t see the real meaning behind the words he spoke anymore. His cheeks warmed up but he refused any access to the grimace that his features wanted to form.

“Yeah, I’m sure.” He insisted with a push of her shoulder. “I won’t catch a cold and if I do, I’ll make sure you’re by my side to witness the pain I’ll be going through because of you.” He stopped right there, not really wanting her to feel guilty for something she hadn’t even done yet. That was beside the point, though, as he knew he wouldn’t get a cold from the temperature of the air. The walk still had another ten or so minutes left in it, that wasn’t long enough for him to catch something. “Oh, I paid him to do that.” He joked, sticking out his tongue at her for a brief moment before sliding it back into his mouth. “Everyone there thinks you’re cool and thinks Avery is hot, but freaky. Especially after she flashed that camera dude.” It was a miracle that those pictures didn’t make it anywhere, because he was sure Andrew had been holding her waist so the connection between the two would have been easily made. Maybe the photographer had a brain and knew not to publish it or else Avery would get shank’d.

’You’re the best’ Her words echoed and his face grinned. And he was a teddy, too? He could ignore those words and just concentrate on the others that she spoke before. “Good, I like your analysis.” He liked it when she went over their songs and told him her favourite and least liked track, she was always so enthusiastic and even though she didn’t devote herself to fan girling him every second of the day, she was like the bands biggest fan. Avery never showed a bigger interest in the music than Demelza did, and he appreciated it. That she could be a friend and a fan at the same time. “You know,” he paused, the air around him suddenly condensing at the sudden change of his tone. Her former words were a trigger to some switch down in his gut, the switch he had been trying to put off touching but now he couldn’t stop himself. His mouth opened and the words just spilled from his tongue, no breath, no real pronunciation just pure babble.

“I-think-I’m-in-love-with-you.” He was hot now, hotter than he would be if he still had his jacket on. Hands were already out of his trouser pockets, fiddling with the hairs on his arms. He didn’t know what to do now, he was too shocked with himself to look up at her and too shocked to just go on like nothing had happened. It was too late to do that now, he had halted in his stride and --- his lips made a connection with hers. With one swift movement of his arm he had scooped her body closer and pressed her lips towards his. With a spare hand he cupped her chin, tilting her face into the kiss. She felt warm and he felt fuzzy. Was he honestly doing this? It was a turning point in their friendship – this would either make them or break them and it was his sole decision to shoot the gun which would start the race of their life.

“You paid someone to smile at me?” Now it was her time to push him, forcing all her weight against his side, pretending to tug at his tongue as he stuck it out at her. “Now I won’t care if you’re ill anymore.” Her nose turned into the air, refusing to look at him as she folded her arms across her chest. This high and mighty posture fell through after a while, continuing their walk side by side. “Wait, they don’t think I’m hot?” she snapped her fingers in a drat gesture, bottom lip sticking out for a pout. “I knew I should have flashed that guy, too.” Musing about this a while, Demelza smiled to herself when he told her he liked her analysis. It was true, she was honest with her thoughts on their music, usually forcing Andrew to sit through it too, but he usually fled the scene after two songs. Jack always listened to her and cared about her opinion and didn’t ignore what she had to say and that made her happy. Her head turned to him as he talked on, glad that she had left the club early; else she would have missed out on this conversation with him.

I think I’m in love with you. There was a sharp intake of breath as she looked up at him incredulously. Her lips moved to ask him what? but nothing would come out and she was afraid that if she opened her mouth a lot of gibberish would part from her lips and she didn’t want that. She didn’t know what to say or what to think, she just knew that she was feeling an incredible burst of happiness surge through her and that her brain must have melted in a large puddle of goo because she wasn’t saying anything and nothing was going through aside the seven words he’d spoken, rewinding over and over again as though it was on repeat. Finally regaining conscious, the first thing that came into mind was whether he was kidding around with her. He was known for it, him and Andrew, it was part of his lovable charisma. But he didn’t look like he was playing a joke on her. She didn’t have the time to think it over, because the answer came clear and simple when he pressed his warm mouth against hers. There was no hesitation on her part this time, and she acted out, her arms finding their way over his shoulders and entwining around his neck.

Her lips curved into a smile to express her feelings of joy, before pressing against his to return some of the pressure. It took a while for her to finally think to pry her lips loose to say something, leaning her forehead against his. “I think I’m in love with you, too.” The words were whispered against his lips, loud enough for him to hear and for her mind to process because yes, it was true. He was her best friend, he would always be her best friend, their comfortable relationship with each other had always been of major importance, but there was no denying that she was feeling and had felt something more for quite some while. Her eyes felt misty all of a sudden and she told herself that she wasn’t going to cry, so instead Demelza looked back up at him. “And just so you know,” her voice was a bit raspy, but she cracked a smile and continued, “We’re kicking everything mermaid-y out of your apartment.”

His breathing rasped in his chest, his lungs making brawny attempts to collect as much oxygen as they could. They weren’t as futile as he thought they were, because his body and mind were getting the fix of air they needed. His heart told another story, beating wildly against his rib cage. It wasn’t the first time his heart acted in such away when he was around the blonde, the evening they kissed for a dare flashed back inside his mind and he smirked at the memory. Before they had even kissed his heart used to jump summersaults in his chest just at the sight of her. He tried to deny it and it only made depression water him down. She was his best friend and his first love, second to his guitar and music but they were inanimate objects. Jack hadn’t ever felt this way about another female before, which is why he spent so long denying the feeling he shared with her.

A grin broke out across his face when she returned his gesture and it inspired him to tug her closer to his body. He leant down again, brushing her lips against hers once more. He didn’t want the moment to end, the moment where they could just stand and kiss for as long as they pleased. Jack pulled back from the kiss again, his head now finding a soft spot against hers, hands snaking around her waist to bring her even closer to him. “I didn’t have anything in the first place.” He winked and then chuckled into another kiss, this time his tongue reached out to stroke her lips, asking for entry into her mouth.

Jack was in a happy place now. The evening had definitely taken a sharp turn, at the beginning he had enjoyed himself but now he was having the most fun he had had in a while. And it was all because of Dee, not Andrew and not Avery. He briefly wondered what the other two were doing now, but he didn’t let his mind ponder on their own problems for too long before he returned his attentions to the his lips on her lips.

“Really?” her nose wrinkled in remembrance, trying to recall the last time she’d been in his apartment. “But I saw a fin!” She didn’t have enough time to tell him where she had seen it or ask him whether it was Andrew’s instead, because his lips were on hers again and the only thing she could do was sigh contently, tip-toeing for a better reach. Her eyes closed almost instantly, sheepishly wondering whether he could hear her heartbeat as loud as she felt it, willing it to calm down and give her a rest but it just wouldn’t listen. She was too happy, too excited. Her lips parted to welcome his tongue into her mouth, her own entwining around his. This wasn’t like the time they had been dared to snog, even though she felt the same jittery feeling in the pit of her stomach, because this time she knew he felt the same way about her as she did about him.

After nipping on his bottom lip for a while she drew back, pressing a few quick pecks on his mouth, on the corner of his mouth and ending with a peck on his nose. “You’re distracting me,” she finally mumbled against his lips, looking at him accusingly through half-lidded eyes. In all honesty she didn’t mind it in the very least, wondering if they could press the pause button and make the world stop buzzing in order for her to stay in this moment for how as long as she liked. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed someone looking at them from beneath one of the street lights and wondered whether Jack had invited one of his fans to tag along.

Once more tip-toeing, her lips rejoined his and she hummed quietly, the sound vibrating against his lips as her arms unwillingly retreated from his neck; they had to get moving now. “Come on,” her eyes lowered to see where he had his hand at, taking it within her own before he could even think of putting it back into his pocket. “I want to get home before Andrew and Avery beat us there.” And before those two would suspect anything because, well, she didn’t know whether Jack wanted them to know. She didn’t have a problem with telling them that they were now, what where they now? A couple, an item? She’d ask him later, she could still see the person lurking at them and it was starting to get creepy.

A whine escaped his throat and rumbled past his lips. Like a puppy dog who had just been told off to chewing on its owner shoes. He knew they couldn’t have stood there for much longer but another couple of minutes wouldn’t have hurt them. Two minutes would have turned into four, which would have probably ended up being an hour and by then he’d be an ice-block and Andrew would be chiselling him out. Jack gladly took her hand in his, squeezing it softly as they picked up their pace and continued on to her place.

He felt a weird feeling emerge inside his stomach, not a feeling of regret; it was like a feeling of remorse. He should have done it sooner if this was the reception he would receive, or he should have done it in a better place or at a better time. Mainly though, his heart sank at the realisation that he would be leaving her for the night and they wouldn’t be able to sit up, kiss and just talk. However, he needed sleep and so did she. She probably had work and he needed to get cracking on his music. Any more delays and the fans would go insane, not to mention Andrew. “I swear, no fins, no seashell bras, no mermaids.” He picked up the topic they had touched before he silenced her with a kiss.

His arm dragged her closer to him and his hand released hers to give her a quick side-hug and an over-dramatised kiss on the head. Not wanting to disconnect their bond for long, he picked her hand back up and trapped her fingers between his. “Let’s play a game.” All he could hear around him was the sound of the wind disturbing the trees and the sound of their feet padding over the path way. He couldn’t hear her breaths and he couldn’t hear his heart beating at supersonic speed anymore either. He didn’t like the silence. “What was the best part of your evening tonight?” a cheeky hint layered his tone, hoping she’d expand on what they just did. To finalise the moment, to let him know it was real.

Her eyes closed briefly when he gave her a quick side-hug and when felt his lips on her forehead, relishing in the warm feeling that was still spreading through her entire being. It almost made her feel numb, the good kind, only aware of him at that moment. She wanted to stay like this for how long as she could, wishing the path would go on longer and they’d have to travel further. But she knew her apartment would eventually come into sight, and they’d have to say their goodbyes. Work was waiting for her in just a mere seven hours, and while she would have liked staying with Jack, perhaps cuddle up to him and talk throughout the entire night, she knew that she had to get her rest or she’d get to work looking like a zombie. There was just one good thing about this day ending, however; the fact that tomorrow she’d have more time to spend with him.

“What kind of game?” her eyes fluttered open again to look up at him, fingers playing with the ones that were enlaced through her own. Her nose pressed against his shirt for a while, trying to find a comfortable position for her head to lie into. Eyebrows raised at his question, catching the tone of his voice and grinning into the material of his shirt before pulling back. “It had to be Andrew tripping over his own feet, hands down.” she nodded her head, looking quite serious. After a bit, her face softened into a smile again. “But I guess it could be a tie, because I rather liked you telling me that you’ve felt the same way about me like I have about you for the last few years.” She had probably realized it during the battle at Hogwarts, where he’d pretty much risked his life for her. Silly, she was supposed to be a Gryffindor but she hadn’t had the guts to tell him after all that time. It made her feel like a wimp.

Her mouth opened to ask him the same thing he’d asked her, but instead found herself asking something completely different. “Jack,” her voice faltered a bit, waiting a tad before she continued, “What are we now? Are we,” she scrunched her nose, not knowing whether to be amused or vaguely annoyed by the term, “dating? Are we going to tell our friends?” she wasn’t sure how he’d feel about being asked those questions, so instead tried to make it somewhat light, “Are you going to hide me in case your fans get word of this?”

Boom.

That was the sound of his heart hitting rock bottom. Her words cut a deep wound in his chest and his face faltered for a number of seconds before he regained his structure. She was joking and he laughed uneasily, how could he have been fooled by that? Well, he was and he agreed, seeing Andrew trip and not being the one to trip himself for once, was hilarious and he couldn’t wait to bring up the memory the next day with the brunette. … last few years - had he been feeling love for her for that amount of time? He didn’t know, he hadn’t thought about the length of time he had felt something for Demelza, only how strong it had become. If he stopped to think about it (which he had, but his feet still unconsciously walked on and his thumb still ran small circles over her smooth skin) the first time he might have felt the feeling would have been in their final year, before the battle, but after everything had gone wrong. After Harry never came back, when the school was left for the Death Eaters to toy with. When he knew that he’d do anything to help Demelza.

“Yeah, mine is pro-” Wait, what? That wasn’t the question he had been ready for. His words halted just before he could continue and his hand tightened its grip around hers. “Oh.” The ‘oh’ was surprised, not doubtful. “We could be a couple?” he didn’t know how he wanted to call it. A couple, item, dating, love birds? “I want us to be one.” It was a confirmation and with their connected hands he pulled her into him and bent down to kiss the corner of her lips. “But we could keep this on the down low, incase my fans do decide to stalk you and shave off your hair.” He caught a strand with his free hand and let it fall through his parted fingers with a sigh.

Her fingers kept playing with his, lacing and unlacing and pressing her tips against his while she waited on an answer, eyes focusing on their feet as they went. Her head rose back up once he had told her he wanted them to be a couple, the sudden shyness that had crawled up on her evaporating like snow before the sun. “Great,” her smile was positively radiating, beaming up at him as she nestled her head back onto his shoulder. “I’m telling Ave, though,” and Ginny, and Sasha, and—okay, maybe she should limit it to just a few, but she didn’t think she could. If her dad pestered her about it, she’d crack within a minute because he’d see how embarrassed she always got when he did it, but now she’d probably just sit there, glowingly with happiness. He’d caught on sooner or later, tell her mum, who would then ring up the chapel she had told Demelza she had once envisioned her and Jack getting married in, and then she’d die before those fan girls could even come near her blonde locks. Such a pity.

“D’you think I’d look good bald?” she couldn’t really imagine herself bald, so it was probably wise to stay away from those fans until everything had cooled down a bit. Everyone, and she pretty much included herself in that, was still waiting for the album to be released and it was probably going be tough on them the next month or so because they would have to travel and promote and leave her behind. Damn, so not what she had in mind if she’d ever start dating Jack. Still, she was happy, fans couldn’t ruin that and there were probably ways for her to make Jack remember she was alive and kicking while he was on tour by dialing him at three in the morning, have him wake up all tiredly and say, “hello?” and then laugh and hang up. She’d done it last time, only to be rung back by him an hour later when she’d been asleep. Yeah, she was going to get him for that one, and damn she’d been dazing off again. “Besides, I’d happily face those nutters if it means spending time with you.”

It was finally happening. He was finally admitting his love and he was finally doing something about it, and now they were a couple? Awesome, this was without a doubt one of the best moments of his life so far. This didn’t include band related moments, such as their first sell out gig, but if it had to go up against something like that there would be a tough battle for first place. “Yeah, I’ll probably tell Andrew, though.” He admitted slowly, thinking about Terry and James, too, but deciding that they wouldn’t mind waiting to hear the news. If anything, they’d probably guess before he had a chance to tell them both the good news. “So you can tell Avery.” And then Avery can tell the world.

“You’d look good bald, you’d look good with any hair style.” The compliment came out with a laugh, but it wasn’t sarcastic or condescending – it was the truth. To him, she would look perfect any time of the day, with too much hair or none at all. With no make-up, with missing teeth, whatever the case, he doubted he’d ever find her unattractive. “And I’d happily cast the nutters away if it meant time with you.” He didn’t care how cheesy he sounded, or how cheesy they were being with each other. It was all just gushing out because he had kept it in for so long already. His feet were still walking at a moderate pace and before he had even noticed it they were standing on her porch. His lips twitched funnily and he looked up at the number nailed into her door. “We’re home!” and they’d made it all in one piece.

His hand stayed locked with hers, making it sway from side to side slowly. “G’night.” He offered the statement lamely, clearly not really looking forward to his own departure. Leaving a few seconds between his words he moved his body inwards and placed a soft kiss on her lips.
