Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Hermione Granger and Ginny Weasley.
What: Hermione needs some advice.
Where: Ginny's flat.
When: Evening
Rating: G
Status: Incomplete

Having wanted an opinion on what Ginny thought Mrs.Weasley would enjoy Hermione apparated to a secluded area near Ginny's flat. She knew that Ginny was going to tell her that she didn't need to bring anything, but the butterflies in Hermione's stomach told her otherwise. She was fretting for no reason at all. Despite it all she knew that Molly would be more than happy at the news. That was if they told everyone. It seemed Ron was a bit hesitant. Hermione still wasn't quite clear what was going to happen when they arrived.  Although, Harry seemed to think there would be plenty of teasing and obviousness. Hermione couldn't exactly see Ron being very obvious about their new situation and she certainly would be the epitome of discreet.

Not to mention Hermione had to talk to Ginny about Ron. And not only Ron she had to talk to Ginny about Harry. Despite Harry's insistence that he was fine she knew very well that he wasn't. She knew that if there was anyone who could talk to Harry it would be Ginny. At least she hoped so. Harry tended to get angrier quicker at Hermione's gentle prodding.  Maybe when the two combined their powers they could come up with a productive plan.

Dressed down in a pair of jeans and light blue t-shirt she stepped out from her little hiding spot. Before anything else she brushed a few pieces of dirt from her jeans. She hadn't exactly mentioned to Ginny that she would be showing up, but she was almost certain that her friend wouldn't mind the impromptu company. Hand raised she knocked loudly on the door, hoping that her friend was even home. Hermione really hadn't thought much of this out. It seemed to be something that she was doing a lot lately.

"Of course has as that sense. He's always done that. He's always had to do that, I suppose. He and Ron are alike in that sense. They both feel like they have something to prove by being Aurors. I can't say that I'm always too pleased with their choice of work, but I do know it' something that they both need. Ron, though, he copes better than Harry does." She sighed. "Harry's never really adjusted well to things. He's always gone into hiding. And despite knowing that I shouldn't exactly push him I can't help it." Her eyes fell down to her lap. "I know he hasn't always had someone there to help him through things, but I guess I just thought taht maybe he would have realized by now that he does." Hermione was addicted to trying to pull Harry out of his funks.

"I nearly hexed your brother the other day. That prat asked me to buy him a book of naked him. He asked me!" Hermione huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. The mere thought made her temper flair all over again.

"He knows that he does Hermione but he just......Harry doesn't operate at normal speeds. Ron had a normal childhood with an annoying family around but he still knew he was cared about. He is a bit more adjusted than Harry, and if you push him? He only retreats more. I know its a problem, but truly? Just let him be until examinations are over. Pushing him is a reason we aren't getting along so well at the moment. He is stressed out." Ginny explained patiently, slightly confused as to why she was now defending Harry when she was still angry him. Although he generally seemed to cause mixed emotions no matter what, that was just how they seemed to work together. "Trust me on this. I understand Harry in some ways that you and Ron can't. And for now? He needs us to leave him alone."

At the abrupt change in subject from Harry's self-imposed (and seemingly Ministry approved) exile from a social life she raised an eyebrow; only midly surprised that they were now talking about Ron. Just as she was only narrowly tolerating the subject of him - naked. Of course it wasn't as if Ginny had never seen Ron (or any of her brothers) naked before. They shared one bathroom among nine people, privacy wasn't a strong suit in The Burrow but she tried not to think about her brothers being naked with other people if she could help it. "Ron is a bloke Hermione. Blokes generally like anything that involves them being naked and girls staring at them. He will ask you much worse things than that eventually - and its not like you wouldn't want to buy it anyway. I don't see why that is upsetting, you've already seen his bits so carrying around a book full of them is hardly risque."

It would always be something that Hermione would worry over. She'd constantly be wanting to push Harry out into the open so that he could live his life as opposed to let it just go by. He had his freedom and she couldn't understand why he was letting it go by.

The shift had come when Ginny had mentioned hexing. Hemrione often wanted to hex Ron, though. That was not something that was new. As soon as Ginny spoke again Hermione had realized her Freudian slip. She most certainly had not meant to say anything about a naked Ron. Something she wasn't willing to admit she'd actually witnessed. "Oh! I didn't .. that is to say I -- I didn't mean him! I know I said him, but that wasn't what I meant. What I meant to say was that Ron wanted me to buy him a book of naked women." Hermione's cheeks were flushed a bright pink, refusing to actually look at Ginny.

"You said him, but you didn't mean him." she repeated, pressing her lips together to hide her smile. She also noticed that Hermione hadn't denied that she had seen Ron naked, something Ginny stored it her mind to use at some other point where it could either embarrass Ron or be used as blackmail of some sort. Actually - the whole conversation could end up in that vein.

"Ron is a bloke. Bloke's like naked women." Ginny chuckled, reaching out to take another sip of her wine. "If its that infuriating just give him a picture of yourself, then you don't have to worry about it."

Hermione truly was digging herself a hole. While trying to erase the damage of one mistake she made another. It seemed Ron was quite the distraction for the little witch. He didn't even have to be around and he made her flustered. She was mortified. Hermione knew tht glint in Ginny's eyes, something she noted whenshe finally could look at her friend again. This was something that she would have a hard time living down.

"Well, he shouldn't want a book of naked women from his girlfriend," she said with an exaggerated sigh. That last word had slipped past her lips, seeming almost forgeign to her. It wasn't a word she had intended to use outloud. It was something that was just understood. If Hermione had thought that her cheeks were red before it was nothing compared to the way her cheeks were lighting up at this very moment. "I couldn't possibly do something like that! That's ..that's just not appropriate!"

"Why isn't it appropriate? Your in a relationship, if your sleeping together then its not as if it would be a shock." Ginny said this all as if it meant nothing, twisting a lock of hair around her finger before she gathered up the latest issue of Which Broomstick? that had arrived yesterday and been tossed onto the coffee table. "Ron probably would be happier with the picture anyway. He's only been pining for you since his fourth year."

"Ginny! What if something like that got into the wrong hands? And besides, I work at the Ministry and you know how some of those women like to talk." It almost seemed like, to her, that they would be able to read her mind. They'd know that she had done something like that and would never let her live it down. "It just is inappropriate! And we're most certainly not sleeping together!" Her bottom lip was bitten as she glanced in Ginny's direction. They had slept in the same bed, but it was hardly the same thing.

Hermione would never have the freedom that Ginny did in matters such as this. "Oh, I don't think he'd really want that." Although, deep down she knew what Ginny said was true.

Thanks to the magazine the only visible portion of her face just happened to now be her eyebrows and both of them were currently forming perfect arches as she attempted not to giggle and to also look genuinely interested at Hermione's excuses. "Hermione, most of those girls have done all of that and worse. And if they judge you for doing something for your boyfriend then they are nothing more than jealous cows."

Turning the page in her magazine she was momentarily distracted by an advertisement for a new carrying bag with extra strong cushioning charms before her next words - words that made Ginny laugh out loud. "He's a male. They think about naked girls or sex every two seconds or something."

"I don't want them to put me into that catagory. And besides, I doubt that those girls would ever be jealous of me." Hermione's insecurities were apparent to those around her, she knew. She was sure her friends caught on more than others. "I have a reputation to uphold!"

Hermione may have known a lot about a lot of things, but the inner workings of a male's brain was not something she was well versed in. "They do not! At least Ron doesn't!" Oh, how naive.

"Really? So I suppose Harry doesn't either?" she chuckled, drawing her legs underneath her body as she turned another page. "Its natural. Girls think about other guys than the one they are with sometimes too. There is nothing wrong with it, its just one of those things that happens. But you don't have anything to worry about, Ron is crazy about you."

Hermione let her face rest in her hands. She really only had herself to blame. "Why would they have to do that!?" Her head snapped up to look at her friend. If two people were in love why in Merlin's name would they need to think about someone else? And didn't they feel wrong doing that? Not to mention it made her stomach turn just a little to think that Ron might be thinking about someone else when he was with her. Even if Ginny reassured her.

"I just don't understand."

"Because its human nature Hermione. We can be attracted to something or someone else without ever acting on it. You might see a bloke walking down the street and find him handsome, you might even look at him an extra second or two. That doesn't mean that you would break up with Ron for that guy. It just means there is something about him that appeals to you." Ginny explained patiently, a hand reaching out to grab her glass and drain it of the remaining liquid. She also suspected she was going to be needed another glass before the night was over but wasn't going to get up for it just yet.

"Its a fine line. If he starts paying more attention to another girl than you, if he starts saying another girls name when your snogging or shagging...thats crossing the line. Simply looking? Not so much."

"I can't imagine being involved with someone and thinking of someone else. I'd feel ...dirty. Like I wasn't being faithful." Her nose wrinkled and she shook her head.

Wide eyed she stared forward. "I don't think I could stand it if that happened. I mean, he has already expressed interest in other women." And by that she was referring to the book her wanted. She was worrying herself over nothing it seemed, but having never been in a situation such as this it was hard to not over think this.

"I didn't say you had to think of someone else when your shagging or something. Bloody hell, I've never even done that." she replied, dropping her magazine as she moved off the couch with her wine glass in hand. "Cmon Hermione, a trip to the kitchen is in order."

Getting to her feet she made the walk into the kitchen, engrossed in her own thoughts. "But the fact of the matter is that it is completely possible that the one you're with could be doing such a thing." Her fingers began to play with the edge of her shirt.

"Doesn't that thought make you uncomfortable? Don't you ever wonder?" She knew she would.

Stifling a groan Ginny pushed open the door to her kitchen, immediately grabbing the still open bottle of wine and pouring herself a glassful while wishing that she had remembered to buy something stronger the last time she had went shopping. Unfortunately she hadn't, and wine probably wouldn't get her quite as pissed as she was going to want to be after this conversation.

Taking a long drink to calm her frustrated nerves she rested the glass on the counter. "No, it doesn't. Harry has never complained about a thing I've chosen to do and I'm fairly sure he hasn't been calling out other names. I trust him, and I know that at the end of the day hes pleased with what he has. Its different for you, you haven't had time to figure this out yet but eventually you'll just know it."

Hermione was completely unaware of how frustrating she was to Ginny. She simply couldn't help all the questions and other things that spewed out of her mouth.

"It just seems so ..out of place. To be so involved and yet letting ones thoughts wander." She leaned up against the counter, folding her arms over her chest. "It's not that I don't trust Ron. It's more that ..I know him. I know what catches his eye." She began to wave her hands around suddenly. "It's like when we were at the restaurant and that waitress was nearly groping him! I saw the way he looked at her. I'm not blonde or busty," she whispered that last part. "And up until now I wasn't certain that I would make that list." Hermione would trust Ron with her life. But in her eyes Ron's type was just like that waitress or Lavender.

"Oh when your involved your thoughts don't tend to wander." she replied, retreving a glass from the cabinet and pouring a small amount of wine into it before passing it across the counter to Hermione.

"Look, we could talk about this all night but it comes down to this. Ron is crazy about you, he isn't going to do anything to mess your relationship up but he will have to prove that to you. The two of you will have to learn about all of this yourselves. I can tell you what its like, but until you know it on your own? It won't do much good. You have to trust him, and yourself."

That sentiment Hermione could somewhat understand. She certainly didn't think of anything but Ron when they had shared their one experience together. And it seemed like Ron hadn't thought of anyone else, but she really couldn't be certain. Her hand reached out to take the glass in her hand.

"I feel a little ridiculous even worrying about this. I suppose it comes from never knowing what Ron's been thinking. I know him, but sometimes he does things that I can't quite understand. Like the book for instance!" She was probably sounding a bit mental. Saying one thing and then saying the opposite the next. This was too much!

Ginny gave a shake of her head, a look of amazement on her face. Honestly, Hermione took everything so literal it couldn't be that Ron had simply been joking with her in her mind. It had to be some terrible, horrible thing.

"Hermione. Ron might have been joking, did you think to ask him about that?"

That was how Hermione's brain worked. Joking didn't always seem to register properly with her. A finger slowly traced the edge of her glass. "After our talk I'm almost certain that it wouldn't be a joke. As a male he would want something like that." She brought the glass to her lips, taking a small sip.

"I never really asked him, but what would be the sense in that now?" There was plenty of sense in that, but Hermione wasn't willing to acknowledge that yet.
