Who: Michael and Orla
What: a first date of sorts
Where: a muggle park in London
When: Wednesday, early evening
Rating: Um, dunno PG 13?
Status: Closed/In Progress

Michael had been looking forward to this since they'd decided to get together. Orla was just cool as hell and he hoped this went well. He showered, shaved and got dressed. He stayed casual since they were going to the park, but made sure he was still fairly neat. He put on a vintage t-shirt and some jeans with a courderoy blazer and his chucks. He attempted to fix his hair, which he liked to think was artfully messy and apparated to London.

He wasn't too far from where they'd agreed to meet and on the way he stopped in a small flower shop. He didn't want to get roses or something that seemed cheesy or overdone. Michael spotted  a container of loose sunflowers. He picked what he thought looked like the brightest one and bought it. With a happy smile and a little hum he headed to Orla's flat. Finding the door, he knocked on it and leaned against the frame waiting for her to answer. He sniffed at the sunflower and smiled.

Today was the day. Orla had spent all day packing to keep her mind off Michael but it was a lot harder than she thought it would be. Michael seemed to be on her mind a lot today, well not even today but in general. Damn that boy and having to be so attractive and so awesome. Orla had not had a true crush in a while but it appeared Michael had changed that if this is what you called a crush. Orla had eventually stopped the packing to get ready choosing a her favourite hair of snug fitting skinny jeans her green converse and her green and white stripped t-shirt tossing a light knitted sweater over top. Yup she was happy with her outfit but her hair on the other hand was a bit annoying. She finally let it just hand down naturally since it just didn't want to be up.

Hearing the knock on the door she held back a girlish squeal. "I'm coming!" She said as she jumped over her boxes as she navigated her way to her door. She tripped falling into the door and opened the door to see Michael. Her stomach did a strange little flip as she smiled at him and saw the flowers. He was so sweet. Orla leaned forward and kissed him softly but the kiss was short lived. "Hi."

Michael heard the ruckus behind the door and stepped back concerned. He was a bit relieved when she opened the door and looked to be in one piece. He smiled at the quick kiss. "Hi." He handed her the flower, suddenly feeling like a five year old. Maybe he should have gone with something grander. "For you," he sort of mumbled. Why was he so nervous?

Orla saw the flowers and she beamed. "Oh I love them!" She held back a squeal as she took them from his hand. He really was sweet to bring flowers. Orla felt that nervous feeling start up again in her stomach as she held onto the flowers looking at the sunflowers. She realized she was in the way. "Oh come in!" She said moving out of the way and looking for some sort of container for these sunflowers. She looked through some near by boxers but then decided that the container was in the box on the other side of the room. She managed to get there just fine but as she was coming back she tripped over a box and stumbled forward.

Michael watched her wade through the boxes and began to follow her. "I completely forgot you had to move this week. You find a place to stay?" He'd wanted to offer his place, but felt like maybe that was too forward.

He was glad he followed her then as he saw her trip over one of the boxes. Michael put his hands out to steady her, smiling shyly. "You, um, alright there?"

"Oh yeah, stupid moving. I wish I could forget. Terry offered up his place but I don't want to intrude what with the new boyfriend and all. Still he is the only one that offered. I figure I will stay there for a bit and then crash on someone else's couch. I hate being a burden you know." Orla shrugged her shoulders as she searched out the vase. "I definitely don't want to be there when they get all cuddly like and then I would feel awkward and obliged to leave." Olra laughed a little at the thought of it all.

Orla was glad Michael was there otherwise she would have been down and down hard. "Thank you, and yup I am good. Let me put these in water and we can get out of here." Orla grinned at him as she headed to her kitchen filled up the water and put the flowers in. Bouncing back she found her keys and was read to go. "Shall we go?"

"Well if things get too weird, you could always come crash at my place," Michael said. It just sort of slipped out before he could catch himself. He hoped the suggestion didn't seem weird. "I know it's far and all, but better than watching them." He left out the part where he thought Terry's boyfriend was a bit of a shmuck. Orla was going into business with the guy after all.

"Sure. I'm ready if you are," he smiled brightly. He walked back out her front door and waited to head out of the building.

"Thanks, I might just take you up on that offer." Orla really wouldn't mind crashing at Michael's place even if it was far. Spending time with Michael was worth the distance in her opinion, plus apparating wasn't a big deal. Orla followed him out the door and locked it behind her sticking her keys in her pocket. She headed out the building actually sort of excited to go on the swings, you could have a lot of fun on the swings.

Michael grinned the whole way out of the building. She didn't think it was weird and was actually considering it. He followed her out of the building and paused a moment to stretch. Michael looked about trying to get his bearings. "I think the park I looked up is over that way," he said pointing to his right. "So how's your week been? You're still working at the bar or have you had your last day already?"

Orla watched he stretched taking in the early evening air, she realized she had not been out all night. Orla looked over at the direction Michael pointed and slipped her hand in his as they headed in that direction. "My week has been good, tiring though all that packing. I think I pulled something lifting boxes." She shrugged before continuing. "So how has your week been?" Orla didn't want to admit that her entire week so far had been waiting for this day.

Michael adjusted their hands, lacing his fingers with hers. He squeezed them gently when she said she'd pulled something. "You know you could have asked me to help," he said a bit concerned. He hoped she was feeling okay. If she did pull something perhaps swings weren't the best idea then. He walked along with her looking about at the various buildings. "It was good. I'm nearly finished with the bar design and now we're just looking at places to get the menus printed and a new hanging sign for out front." He shrugged as he continued. "I'll paint the logo on the glass doors myself. That's the fun part for me," he smiled.

Orla liked the feeling of Michael's hand in hers, she looked at their hands when he squeezed hers and it caused a smile. "I didn't know if you were busy and I didn't want to bother you." Perhaps asking Michael to help would have been a good idea. "Well you could help me later?" She asked him wondering if he would be up for that. "Well not like tonight but another day."

Hearing about the on goings of the bar design. "Oh that is great. I want to see this glass door when you are done." Orla grinned as she looked around at their surroundings. She had an idea of which park they were headed too. "You know I really like your drawings by the way." Orla knew she had chose wisely when she had asked Michael to do the art work for her bar.

"Sure I'll help you out," he smiled. "Just let me know when." Michael didn't mind helping her, especially if it meant she'd avoid further injury. Plus, he'd get to spend more time with her and that was good too.

"Oh thanks," he replied. Michael ran his free hand through his hair. He thought he was fairly good, but those drawings were kind of rough to him. He was a bit of a perfectionist when it came to his art. "Yeah I'll let you know when I finish it. You can come down to the bar and check it out." He looked up at the sky and smiled. "I'm glad it's such a nice day. I haven't been on the swings in ages."

"Oh you are so awesome!" Orla was thrilled not only would she not have to worry about lugging her stupid stuff and pulling something again Michael would be there and that was just awesome. Perhaps this moving was a blessing in disguise. She had yet another reason to see Michael. "Thanks though really."

"Oh you're welcome." Orla thought he was great but anyone was compared to her. "Thanks I look forward to it." She was looking forward to seeing his drawings but once more it was a reason to see him. "I know I haven't been on the swings in ages either."

being sick and studying sucks. I'm beginning to ponder chopping my own head off.

Michael just laughed when she called him awesome. It wasn't anything big really. He was more than happy to help her. "I remember being a kid and thinking it was so daring to stand up on the and swing as high as I could. Though I knew I was a wizard and for some reason I thought if I flew off I could actually fly." He chuckled sofly and shook his head. "Never did work, though. My brother got quite a kick out of that explanation while mum was pouring bone mending potions down my throat."

The park gates were coming into view. He liked this one. The flowers were so colorful around the entry and he loved the old trees. Michael felt the familiar itch for his charcoals when he looked at them. "The swings are pretty close to the entry if I remember correctly."

Orla was rather amused as she listened to him. She could definitely picture him in a cape attempting to jump from a swing. She laughed at the mental image. "Please tell me you had a cape on when this jump took place? It would make it that much more amazing." Orla laughed almost giggling at the thought once more of Michael jumping from a swing in a cape. "I am sorry you had to deal with the bone mending potion it is gross, or so I hear. When I broke a bone I did it the old muggle way since my mum is muggle." Orla didn't mind talking about her mum ever.

"Yup they are," she said giving his hand a squeeze. "So what are we going to do if there is only one swing? What if kids are using them?" Orla raised her eyebrow at him as she continued to walk with him.

"Well I was about eight and I didn't have an actual cape so it was more like a towel," he smiled. "Oh that had to be annoying. Don't muggles wear those things on their arms for weeks?" That was one thing that he was greatful for over the years. Even though his dad was a muggle, he could appreciate the advantage of wizard medicine. "My mum is a healer, which is good because with two boys there was always someone getting hurt. Even my sister, Eva, was a bit of a tomboy."

Michael looked around the park, grinning as she squeezed his hand. "Well you know I'm not above scaring off a few kids if it's required," he joked. "If there's just one you can go on it. I'll even push you if you like," he grinned at her as they began to walk into the park gates.

If she wasn't already crushing hard the comment about the towel probably would have done it, Michael was apparently cute even as a kid."That is just adorable Michael." She thought back on how long she had worn her own cast. "Yeah I had mine on for like a month, I did it before I even went to Hogwarts and knew I was a witch. Wish my dad had been around for that once I learnt about him." Orla laughed a little. "Oh lucky that would have been helpful." She grinned at him. "I don't know if I would want two boys they seem like a handful. Really the idea of kids at this moment scares me I am sure that would change." Orla shrugged.

"No no, if there is just one we can share." Orla nodded her head. "It was always fun doing the spider swing thing when I was a kid. So if there is just one we will share." Orla nodded her head and even if there was more than one sharing didn't seem all that bad of an idea. Walking in the gates she looked over at the empty swings, one moving in the wind. "They are all free."

"That must have been really weird not knowing and then suddenly, Oh hey you can do magic! I can't imagine how that must have felt," Michael nodded. He listened as she talked and had to laugh. "My mum is a very patient woman. Three kids and she essentially adopted all my friends that she really liked. Expects a full report on them whenever I see her." Michael wouldn't admit it as it might seem kind of strange, but he really liked kids. While he wasn't about to go have some tomorrow, he planned on having a big family someday much like the one he grew up in, and raise them in that house he kept drawing along the boardwalk. Someday...

"Spider swing thing?" If she was meaning what Michael thought she meant he'd have a bit of a time keeping himself under control. He really didn't want to bollocks this up. When he saw the swings were all free, he was actually a bit relieved. Michael grinned at her and winked. "Race ya," he laughed as he let go of her hand.

"It was, but it explained a lot. I sometimes would do things really strange and not know why, but now I do." Orla shrugged as she looked back over at Orla as he talked about his mum. "I am sure if I was friends with people my mum saw more she would expect a full update. Most of my childhood friends I don't talk to cause I went away to school and all."

"Yes spider swing things, two people facing each other on a swing it makes it look like more legs." Orla nodded her head. As he let go of her hand and said race ya Orla laughed at him. "You are going down." She said as she ran for the swings.

Yeah, she meant what he thought she did. You can handle this Michael. Michael took off after her and headed for the swings. He grabbed one of the chains and laughed as she barely beat him by a mere second. "Alright, you won, but barely," he grinned.

He picked a swing and stood up on the seat. Michael smiled down at her as he slowly got the swing to start moving. "So tell me, Orla Quirke, what did you want to be when you were little? Before all this magic nonsense." It was strange, but nice how easy he found it to talk to her

Orla held her arms up in victory as she won. "Yeah but I still won." She beamed as she sat down on the swing and started to pump her legs looking up at Michael as he pushed himself on the swing. As he asked the question she twisted her lips as she thought. "I wanted to be a princess by day and Batgirl by night. No seriously I wanted to be an astronaut." Orla laughed at how ridiculous that sounded now. She would never have made a goo astronaut. "Oh and I wanted to be an Olympic swimmer, but that failed when I never learnt to swim." She laughed as she looked down at her feet before looking back up at Michael again. "What did you want to be?"

"An astronaut? Really? Trip to the moon and all?" Michael nodded and smiled as he tried to make himself go a bit higher. "I wanted to be a rockstar," he grinned. "You know. Play my guitar, screaming fans, though since I was only about five or six, groupies hadn't worked into that equation." Michael laughed and shook his head. "After that it was just art. I wanted to be an artist, either comics or actually hang in a museum stuff."

"Yes an astronaut with a trip to the moon and all, silly huh," Orla shrugged as she continued to swing making herself go higher and a tad faster. She wanted to go high enough to get the bumps. Orla turned her head to watch him her hair swinging back and forth with the swing cover her face when she when back and flowing behind her when she went forward. "A rock star?" Orla had to laugh at that she just couldn't help it. "Well from what I have seen you make a great artist, I don't know about your musical talent though.

you have no idea how much thought was involved to figure out her hair, and I hope I got it right.

I sat here a few minutes trying to picture it. lol I think you got it right :D

"I taught myself how to play guitar. I can't read music for anything, but if I listen long enough I can pluck it out," he smiled. Michael watched her as she swung back and forth. The way she looked with her hair flying out behind her and how she smiled, he wanted to memorize it, draw it. The picture was already forming in his mind. She was really something.

"Well it is better than what I can do with guitar and that would be nothing." Orla laughed sweetly as she tilted her head and body back and just went with the swing. She loved the feeling of the swings and the rush of the air. The gliding was stopped by a bump which signified she was going rather high, so since she reached her goal she just let her legs hang and let the swing slow on its own. "What is your favourite song?"

Michael got himself ready and jumped off. He hadn't been going that high so landed easily in a crouch. He turned around and sat on the ground just watching her with a smile. "Well my favorite to play is Whole Lotta Love by Zeppelin, but to just listen? Hmm...," he trailed off looking thoughtful a moment. "Probably Social Distortion's cover of Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire." He paused a moment then nodded. "Yeah. I just love the amped up guitars and the way Mike Ness just growls it out." He smiled. "So how about you?"

Orla looked at him and didn't feel nervous like she expected to with him just watching her. Orla grinned as she listened to his explanation and just nodded her head. "Oh well I don't have as great of an answer as yours but I really like I've Just Seen a Face by the Beatles. I think it is because it gets stuck in my head a lot." Orla grinned as her feet hit the ground and dragged across. She got off she swing and held out her hand, she had a bit of a devious look on her face. "Come on get on the swing. I can't leave the swings without doing the spider swing thing, ritual." She wasn't actually serious but she really wanted to do it.

"Ahh a Beatles fan," he smiled and shook his head. Michael didn't dislike them completely. They had some merits, but he was definitely more of a Rolling Stones kind of guy. He took her hand and stood up using the other hand to swipe the dirt off his pants. Michael looked at her with raised brows. Was she serious? You can handle this. Just think of McGonagall in a bikini or something. "Alright then. Can't break the ritual," he said with a little smile. Michael sat down in one of the swings, made sure he was well seated before holding out his arms to her.

"Yeah I like them, my mum loved 'em." She shrugged her shoulders as she looked at him dust of his pants before sitting down on the swing. She was curious to see how this would turn out and if Michael would get all nervous and awkward? He watched as he sat down and she moved onto his lap awkwardly putting her legs through the opening in the swing. Finally when she was settled she was staring forward at him. "Thanks for not breaking my ritual." She grinned at him and couldn't help giving him a short kiss.
