“Creed.” Sleipnir said decisively. “Although the girl you speak off seems to be in great need she is important to Heimdall’s agenda, thus in no physical danger. As much as it saddens me, we must see to the lives of countless innocents endangered by the one called Victor Creed. If he is under the influence of a creature twisting him toward mindless slaughter I fear his danger is of greater need.”
Loki frowned, looking almost offended. “You believe Clarice’s danger of less importance?”
“Unfortunately, I do. Heimdall will not kill her if she is so important that he would make such a risky bargain. Your other ally faces not only mortal danger once the entire army of Asgard is set upon him but possible mental damage.” Loki went still, Sleipnir’s eyes pierced into him, implacable logic causing his words to leave him. “You allow sentimentality to blind you to a greater danger. If your friend is allowed to murder countless innocents he will risk death and madness when the whole of Asgard’s strength bears against him. You know this more than any other, as you yourself have faced that power and remain broken still.”
Loki swallowed and slowly nodded. “True enough. Despite that, it is quite possible that Clarice is also in Asgard…if Heimdall keeps her then that is most likely where. He will not leave Asgard unprotected. If we wish to speak to him Asgard is our best destination…and most dangerous.”
“Fear is meaningless.” Sleipnir said, tossing his head up slightly. Loki bristled but did not deny he was afraid…something about all of this felt like the world was crumbling beneath his feet. To him, there was little he could do to stop it other than clutch at family and friends to keep them close before it all fell apart. At that Sleipnir turned to look at Kurt once more, nodding his head. “You will ride upon my back, shadow-god. So long as you are astride me you will pass through the worlds within moments.” With that the warhorse slowly crouched, lowering his shoulder enough that he could be mounted. “Fear not…I have never lost a rider.”
