The Doctor's eyes fell on Gwen and the glare softened ever so slightly, changing from a glare to a lesser, very serious look. There would be time for glaring conversations later.
Martha made a mental note to give her friend a hug later, Gwen deserved it as she herself had been just about ready to knock some sense into both of them. She wasn't a toy to be fought about! Of course the Doctor wasn't going to let all of this go so easily, but he closed his eyes for a moment, stood up and walked around the table, standing behind Martha he gave her shoulder a squeeze. Trying to comfort maybe? One other thing, he'd decided that this Gwen Cooper had spunk. Moreso than her ancestor had.
The Doctor was used to Jack's stunts. Hell the man had flown on the outside of the TARDIS through the vortex just to get the chance to talk to him... For all he was he knew that the Impossible Man would have done whatever he had to to keep her safe, still...
"It will be easier if we do this in the TARDIS," the Doctor said after several moments of tense silence. "With your files she should be able to help me figure this out faster than if we did it here. And just for my own sake, I'd like to make sure that there are no other surprises waiting to spring out."
Martha glanced at him over her shoulder. She knew the look on his face. She'd seen it too many times. He was out of control of this situation and he didn't like where it could lead. Still he was doing what he could to help rectify it. And that was the important thing. At least right now. And right now Martha just wanted to get out of this room.
"She's not going to take off and kidnap us again, is she?" The comment was meant to break the awkwardness, lessen the oh-so-obvious and crackling energy. And it seemed to work as the Doctor's smile returned.
"Oh I don't think that'll be a problem. Unless we find that we need to be in the Vortex for tests, we'll be staying parked. Can't have Torchwood disappearing. Really bad consequences and all that."
"Not to mention there's no real way of telling what this... did you say Vortex?" Rob asked finally speaking up. "What sort of effect it might have on a woman with child. It's like flying right? Generally frowned upon?"
It was then that the Doctor's attention was back on Hogan for the first time in a while. "New addition to the staff?" Rob nodded, and the doctor seemed to note that his stare was sort of intense. "...what are you looking at?"
"You. Y'don't look like an alien," he said, a very contemplative look on his features.
"Well you look Gallifreyan. So I suppose we're even."
