Dorian had his own routine since he hadn’t cared yet to get a job on the island. Sticking to something close to what he did back in New York City suited him. But now he had more individuals to look out for. Namely a Brit that could pose a risk to Caspian. One of these days, Dorian knew he’d find his own life on the island outside of the close path alongside the blue-eyed devil.
Wearing light colored and light-weight clothes, he moved around the island - walking his usual way to catch a look and idea about any newcomers. No one of note. Dorian moved to the beach and along the shops there. Soon he was back into the hotel’s lobby. Even being alert and observant, he could miss things. Then he heard a familiar voice and turned in that direction.
“Hey,” Jude murmured. He sidled up next to Dorian casually. A quick glance around told him that they were of no concern or interest to anyone, which was the way he preferred it. He’d been out making deliveries and had paused for a quick smoke. Upon seeing Dorian, he slipped into the lobby after him. They hadn’t chatted in a while and now seemed as good a time as any for updates.
“See anything good out there?” Dorian was the eyes of the operation, in a sense. He was on observation and recruitment - Jude always found that a bit hilarious - but it was no less important than what any of the rest of them were up to.
“Hey,” Dorian echoed and crackled a small grin. Familiar faces were always good these days. He noticed there wasn’t a huge crowd in the lobby at any given time - just a few new people occasionally. That guy that seemed like he had air sickness a few weeks ago was a rare occurrence. Dorian was always watching for anyone Caspian may find useful.
“No. But I did meet Ian.” He also felt he needed to assess those who could or already had posed a threat and had been dealt with. “Anything interesting going on I’m not in on?”
“Yeah?” Jude quirked a brow and looked over at his fellow gang member and friend. “We’re working on a plan to help mitigate communications with Lara. Playing her, basically. The Queen has overtaken this charge. He’s got Ian on a short leash.” This talk was fairly common when they were chatting together. Both of them had a vested interest in the success of the operation and while the blue eyed devil might not be on his favorites list right then, Caspian had saved him enough times that Jude knew where he stood. “You’re always welcome for a debriefing.” They didn’t leave Dorian out on purpose. Some things just happened. “I also almost died. I’ll tell you all about that later.” When they weren’t in public.
“Oh?” Dorian blinked and looked over at Jude as he listened. “Good on the leash. Good on it being short.” He didn’t like Ian. He was annoying but perhaps necessary. Caspian was Dorian’s favorite, Jude his second favorite. Their small group needed to stay secure and be on as equal footing as possible. “I’d like that.” Then he reached over and gently grasped Jude’s shoulder and smiled to keep their conversation’s outward appearance cheerful. “I’m glad you’re okay.”
“I appreciate that.” Truly, he did. He didn’t think he was going to make it but by some miracle he had. “I got lucky. I might not be so lucky next time.” His tone had softened though. “I can’t tell you next time we’re having a meeting - they just seem to happen - but I’d get with Nate. He’s sort of the overseer of all of this.” Hands worked their way into the pockets of his leather jacket casually. “Or you can always go to Cas directly. I’m sure he’d love to see you and get an update on your progress.” He didn’t ask questions about missions. He knew what he was supposed to.
“If you need my help, just let me know, Jude.” Dorian breathed and gently patted Jude’s shoulder before letting go and letting his hand fall to his side. He rolled his neck as he listened, wanting to be in on everything he could. “I…,” Dorian shook his head. “I don’t think I’ve made as much progress as I would like.” He wanted to be of use, of help since he still felt guilty for getting snatched up and brought here instead of looking after the business like Caspian wanted.
That meant a lot to him. They were playing for the same team. “Thanks.” And then he quirked an eyebrow. “You should spend some time at the pool. Or the bar. Both places are good when you’re looking for new blood. For some reason, folks were apt to share what they did at the pool (he had no idea why). “If I can help, just let me know.”
Nodding, Dorian breathed. It was good to be close to the way they worked before coming here. “Okay. I will try there.” He wanted to bring Caspian good news, names, and abilities. Breaching out here was a challenge to him. “I will,” he smiled.
“I’ll see you later then?” Jude smiled at Dorian. He looked around at the crowd, turned to offer Dorian a wink, and then he ducked into a throng of people and he was gone.
“Yeah. Take care.” Dorian smiled back. Constants comforted him. And Jude was one of them. He watched Jude leave and disappear in the crowd before turning and heading outside towards the pool.
