Who: Connor Macleod and Cassandra
When: Week 2 Day 1, Morning
Where: Their house, Calderville
What: Talking things over

Connor stepped out onto the porch of the house he shared with Cassandra, steaming cup of coffee in hand as he looked out over the horizon. The sun was barely peeking over the horizon, but it was the fact it was visible at all through the patchy clouds was a welcome sign of good weather to come. The younger of the two immortals on the island took a sip of coffee and pondered the events of the past several days.

He'd give a fortune for a reliable idea of what time of year it was and what the seasons were like in this place. The climate was tropical obviously, but more than that he had no idea. Were they almost done with storm season? Just beginning? How often did hurricanes blow through these parts? As long as he didn't lose his head Connor supposed it didn't matter, but there was an awful lot of cleanup to do and not many people to do it.

And that led him to think about the people here. Everyone seemed to have some unique ability, some (like Micha or Jake) were obvious, others less so. Should he and Cassandra reveal what they were to the mortals or continue to keep their immortality a secret?

He heard the door open and turned to see Cassandra step out. "Good morning? I didn't wake you did I?"

Connor quirked an eyebrow at the 'attractive young woman' comment, wondering if she was trying to say something. Izzy was what would fall under 'drop dead gorgeous' in just about any culture he'd encountered, but then again he'd yet to encounter an ugly woman on the island.

He filed it away with a mental shrug and took another sip of coffee, staring out at the sea.

"If the situation arises. I don't see any need to go running off and telling everyone now, but eventually it might be a good idea." He suspected the situation would arise, sooner or later. There were just too few bodies on the island and too much work to be done, their skills were too valuable to stay hidden and would raise awkward questions.

She nodded, thought for a few moments longer then looked down at her coffee cup before looking back at the horizon again.

"There is one who knows already, after I told her. A young woman, Claire, whom I met that night we went to Acoste. She was worried and finally showed me by cutting herself badly with a sharp stone, that she healed almost instantaneously." Before Connor could react she lifted her hand and shook her head. "No, there was no Quickening involved. That was why I was a little taken by surprise, and wondered if this place somehow dampened our ability to sense it, but then I remembered how I can sense yours, and you mine, and I don't think that's just peculiar to us and our closeness," she told him with a sidelong wink.

"It seems she is immortal also, but not of our kind. So again our 'unique' abilities are not exactly so unique here."

"Immortal without a Quickening?" Connor stared at her for a moment then shook his head. "I guess that isn't the strangest thing here by far, but that's still almost disturbing." The idea of someone in The Game without a Quickening to give them away was a very disturbing thought indeed. "What have you told her?"

"Only that I have lived a while," she told him reassuringly, with a soft smile. "She continued to tell me of people from her world who have all sorts of different abilities, including pyroteknics, the ability to shift time, and that made me wonder." She turned to face him, a familiar look on her face, one she always had when she was thinking of 'investigating' curiosities, or even just hypotheses.

"What if it was someone like that, someone with abilities we've never even heard of, who created this place and brought us here? We have no idea who else might be brought here, or what 'abilities' they might have. But there must be more than we know, and this is a large place. Just this town has so much more that we haven't even scratched the surface of as yet. Should we suggest to others that we put together some sort of plan to search out what we can find from whatever source? And those who have all the amazing abilities, they can put forward suggestions as to what they can come up with?"

"The ability to create entire worlds out of whole cloth and snag people from different dimensions?" Connor snorted. "If they had that level of power why bother with it? They could remake their own world however they wanted."

Still, he couldn't dismiss Cassandra's suggestion though. "Perhaps. It isn't a bad idea, but I think we ought to focus the talk on more short term priorities. Like cleaning up the damage, clearing the roads and making sure we can keep ourselves fed."

"That level of power doesn't mean they have any greater intelligence," she reminded him. "We have known many with power, and even belief, but neither of those were much use when it came to common sense or the ability to think." She smiled as she reached up and stroked his cheek.

"Of course, the basics are essential, and something to focus everyone's attention on short term, but I also believe that some will become frustrated, and dare I say bored if not given something long term to consider. Plus I suspect there are more than a few who have never had to hunt, and collect, to feed themselves, and will be requiring assistance in the area of perhaps butchering a beast, or even milking, or collecting eggs!" The corner of her mouth twitched slightly at the memory of him telling Trent of having to do that when Connor was a lad in his village, and Trent's expression at the idea of him learning to do the same.

"I forget how the younger set can be sometimes." Connor nodded in surrender. In many ways there was less distance between the world Cassandra had been born into and his own than those of people born in the 20th and 21st centuries. Technology and civilization had changed greatly and at a dizzying speed.

"Some of them would probably starve to death."

Cassandra nodded as she laughed. "Young Juliet was telling me that she has never even baked, though spent time as a child in the kitchen with their staff, watching the cook prepare meals. Apparently her mother would get quite distressed if the child was not spending every waking moment in the gymnasium, practicing her tumbles and the like. She was complaining how much she missed the baked goods of where she had been before, and how she was starting to crave them."

She arched an eyebrow as she looked back out to the horizon. "I do admit that I would enjoy a nice piece of steak and was going to suggest we make a time to journey to the southern settlement, Glen Haven, and take stock of what is available. From what Neytiri has told me there is livestock there, sufficient that we need not be concerned about the eating habits of the ikran."

"I've never been a pastry chef so she's out of luck." Connor commented dryly. He could probably handle the muffins, cookies and the like that everyone knew how to make from box mixes. Anything more substantial than that aside from bread was beyond what he'd bothered to learn how to do.

"And 'young Juliet'? Aside from the one that calls himself the Doctor they're all young. Even by mortal standards."

She sighed a little, taking a sip of the cooling coffee before nodding. "They are. Which hopefully means they are also still teachable!" she pointed out with a wry smile.

"It's been a long while since I've had to cook, or slaughter a beast, or even pluck a chicken for that matter," she mused, "but I guess some things just never leave you, especially if you've had to do them often enough."

"It's been close to a century since I've plucked a chicken," Connor admitted. "I still clean and gut my own kills when I go hunting though. Hopefully some of the others hunt too, that'll give us someplace to start." He was pretty sure the big blue people hunted, from the vibes he'd gotten from them the Scot thought they'd have fitted in just fine with his Clan back in the day.

Once you got over them being ten foot tall, blue, and having tails.

"It will, and speaking of getting started, I must get ready to head up to the hospital. The woman Nikita said she would come and give me a hand there." She paused and thought for a moment. "She's a rather odd one. While her face reflects her relative youth, her eyes carry a weight that belies the rest of her. Like she has lived through more, quickly, than most." She paused, as if about to say something more, then shook her head, gave his arm a light squeeze and added, "I guess I'll have the opportunity to learn more when I work with her today. And to do that I need to be at the hospital!"

Connor nodded. "Cassandra." He said as she moved to leave, at her questioning glance he moved in and gave her a quick kiss on the lips. "Watch your head," was all he told her when they parted.

"I always do," she told him with a knowing smile and wink.
