Where the hell am I???
Who: John Kennex & Jake
Where: Room of Rings, Crossroads --> Calderville
When: Week 1 Day 2, Morning
What: John arriving
Status: COMPLETE!!!

John, had his coffee cup in his hand and was looking at his phone as he pushed the door to Rudy's lab open, calling out as he entered.

"C'mon Dorian! Gotta go, we've gotta call Dorian. Kiss Rudy goo.... what the hell?"

He stopped mid-word, mid-step, and looked up, his phone having completely changed as he looked at it in his hand, to something a lot larger and completely different things on the screen. He almost dropped his coffee cup when he saw that in front of him, instead of Rudy's cybernetics lab was a counter, a wall, and a blue giant, crouched down looking at something in his hand. His coffee cup then did hit the floor as he quickly drew his gun.

"Who the fuck are you and where are Rudy and Dorian?!"

Jake stayed by the doors, leaning against the doorframe and crossing his arms as the guy looked all round them, quickly reaching up to run a finger along one of his ears as he waited.

"The lab's where it always was. Which isn't here. And you're on this island with the rest of us. Sorry. You mind if I go get my knife back?" he asked, pointing over his shoulder at where his knife lay.

"Island? What island?" John said, his face almost completely blank as he tried to figure out if he was maybe in the recollectionist's chair, and things had gone wildly out of control. His eyes narrowed a little when Jake asked about his knife, but his instincts told him that the guy wasn't a threat, and really, how could his mind create something like him, and if he wanted to harm John he could probably do it with his bare hands. Which were also huge.

"Sure, and while you're at it start talking. And tell me is this an illusion, or a side affect of a new drug, or what?" With all the new drugs flooding the market they were never completely on top of all of them.

"Get back in here and stop sight-seeing, then," he replied, heading back inside and snatching up his knife before going over to where he'd dropped his two phones.

"We're on an island. There's a map on the wall, over there," he said, slightly distracted as he checked that his old phone was still mostly-useable, before remembering to point at where the map was. "We're in the middle. Crossroads. You see it, yeah? There's a push-pin or something, right? And then there are three different settlements. Acoste at the beach in the north-east, Calderville's the city on the north-west coast, and down in the south is this tiny village called Glen Haven. Most of us have gone to Acoste, but a couple are in Calderville. Nobody's staying in Glen Haven that I know of, unless we've had a couple new arrivals that I dunno about yet, which is possible."

Standing up straight again, he put both phones into his carry pouch and then looked round at Cop Guy again. "There's a... like an old network on the island, you can access it from these phones. They're ancient, I know, but they're easy enough to use. This is how we all keep in touch with each other, so I'd suggest you take one. What's your name? I keep calling you Cop Guy, and I'm pretty sure that ain't your name."

"John, Detective John Kennex," John replied, taking in everything Jake had said, despite how unbelievable he still felt it was. "And how do you mean old?" he asked, fairly certain he hadn't heard of any projects that created synthetics that were built like Jake, but then also figuring that why not?

"You;re a synthetic, right? Sorry, I mean, an android. Because you definitely ain't human, but you sound like one, and know stuff like one."

"Kaltxi, John Kennex," he said with a small bow and salute, "and I mean old because it's early 21st Century level tech. It's all antique. But, like I said, it all works."

Jake's ears pricked up when John asked him if he was an android, though, and then he burst out laughing. "No. No, I, uh, no. I'm not human now, but I was. I'm a human-Na'vi hybrid," he explained, grinning as he remembered another John trying to explain how he wasn't a hybrid, he was a Meta-...thingy.

"I, uh, I was a Marine. But then I was invalided out. I got offered a chance to go work off-world, I took it and, uh, long story short, this is the end result."

Na'vi hybrid? Early 21st Century tech is antique? Work off-world?

John's head started to spin a little, and it wasn't a pleasant experience, something closer to when he had been in the recollectionist's chair for too long. And if this Jake was right, there was no Dorian here to pull him out of the chair.

"A Marine," he said, deciding to stick to the things he could at least recognise, which at that point in time wasn't a great deal of things.

"I see," he continued, lying through his back teeth as he didn't see much sense in anything Jake was saying. Maybe he was back in a coma, they'd had to induce one - had he been injured? Were Dorian and Rudy dead? Jake said he'd been invalided out of the Marines so maybe he was in a coma and they were both in a virtual reality. His right leg shifted slightly and he felt it with his hand. Whatever reality it was, he still had a synthetic leg, that was now certain.

"And we all came through that? About twenty of us you say," he added, glancing up at the middle of the three large rings that were embedded in the floor.

"Yes, sir, I'm a Marine. Cpl. Jake Sully, pleased to meet you." Reaching over to where all the phones were, he lifted one at random and walked over to crouch down beside John. Holding the phone out towards the guy, Jake tilted his head slightly and studied him for a few seconds.

"We all came through that ring, yeah. Not all at the same time. Here, take the phone. You can change it for a different one if you don't like it."

"Nice to meet you, Corporal." John took the phone as instructed, and stared at it. It was bigger, bulkier, and as Jake had already pointed out, older technology, from just before John was born from the look and feel of it.

"It's big," he said, without even thinking, then looked at Jake crouched beside him. "The other twenty or so, are they all like you?"

"Nah. My Mate, Neytiri, she's full Na'vi. We're the only two who're this tall and blue. Everyone else is human. Or they look it, anyway," he said with a shrug.

"Is there anywhere you want to go to? Other than 'home', I mean. Nobody's worked out how to do that bit yet, but if you want to go check out any of the three settlements, you can use the ring-thing if you want. I don't like it, reckon it feels weird, but I can show you how it works," he pointed out with a smile, and then got to his feet again. "I'm gonna head for the beach, but I'm gonna go my own way and fly down. You can get a lift if you want, but you'll have to put up with my Ikran, Banshee."

John turned and looked at the rings as Jake spoke. He wasn't too sure he was thrilled with the effects either.

"Ikran?" John said, looking up at Jake again and taking a small step back to see him. "What's that?"

"I reckon it'd be easier to let you meet Banshee, rather than explain him," he said, closing his eyes briefly as he checked on said Ikran. All he could get were impressions of flying, but now that Banshee knew Jake was looking for him, he'd land somewhere nearby. "Then you can decide how you want to go wherever it is you want to go to."

He had a quick look around the ring room in case he'd left anything lying around, like bits of phone or whatever (there weren't any, thank fuck) and then headed for the door just as Banshee screeched his arrival.

John was still trying to decide if he wanted to go to the beach - sand was never a good thing around cybernetics, and the last thing he needed was to have problems with his leg. If what Jake said was true there was no Rudy around to fix it - he didn't know what he'd do if it failed.

When he heard the screeches he stopped dead in his tracks, looking out the doors and seeing nothing. "What the hell was that?"

"That was Banshee," Jake replied with a smile as he pulled his renten out of his carry-pouch and put them on. Walking outside, he looked up just as Banshee set down, his wings flaring out before being tucked in neatly to his side.

One headbutt to the side later, Jake was quickly making tsaheylu with his Ikran. "He won't hurt you if you want to come out," Jake said over his shoulder, then nodded as Banshee showed him the hunting he had done. "That's cool, but can you show me later?" he asked the ikran quietly as he rubbed at his eye ridges, "I gotta help John first. He's new here, see?"

Banshee just crooned and looked towards the door.

And John stood in the door and stared back, jaw hanging down as his brain tried to find some reason, some cause, something to explain the hallucinations he was now having. Because large, blue humanoids called Jake were easily comething he could have created in his own head, but huge technicolour flying dinosaurs like that was definitely something outside his realm of creativity.

"Uh..." John blinked, and the creature didn't change shape, nor grow another head, nor get bigger or smaller. It stayed there, a strange growth now attached to Jake's massive plait of hair. "C'n I... you know... is there another way... how about if I just stay here?" he suggested, staring at them both.

Jake asked Banshee to stay where he was and to be quiet before breaking tsaheylu. Walking back over to John, he crouched down so as not to tower over the man, letting his hands hang loose between his knees while his tail curled round his ankles. "Hey, it's okay, he won't hurt you. No flying, then? That's cool. And yeah, you could stay here, there's a bunkhouse over there with really basic rations." He pointed in the direction of the bunkhouse as he spoke, before looking past all that to the ridge that surrounded almost the whole area.

"Or, uh, I guess you could walk to either Acoste or Calderville, but they're miles away. I reckon your best bet, if you don't like the look of Banshee, is going through the ring, to be honest. You kinda look like you need to be 'round people right now, y'know?"

"It's not the flying, man," John said, giving Banshee a sidelong glance as he shook his head. He rubbed his eye with the heel of his hand, then looked up again, stepping outside as he blinked his eyes clear.

"I only recently woke up from a 17 month coma, and have been trying to get my memories back, pushing to find out what happened so we could catch the bastards who betrayed us." He stopped and looked at Jake, giving him a wry smile. "Sorry, guess none of that's really relevant now. But yeah, I'm just trying to figure out how badly my brain is addled to come up with creating you two, but I guess if it is addled, it's what I have to live with now," he grinned. "And I'm hoping you are telling me that there are other people, human kinda people, around?" he added, a glance around telling him that wasn't so far fetched.

"Jesus, man, that's shit. 17 months?"

Jake had been unconscious for a couple days after he'd been shot, and waking up in a hospital room when the last thing he remembered was going on maneuvers in Venezuela had been disorienting enough, but seventeen months? Fucking hell. Shaking his head slightly, his ears flickered as he glanced down at his feet, but then he laughed as John said about his brain being addled. "Yeah, there are other, human kinda people around. You just got lucky and met me first. Your brain's not addled, by the way. You are here, I'm real, and Banshee's real too. Promise."

Standing up straight again, Jake absently rubbed at a spot just below his breastbone, and then looked down at John. "Travel by ring, yeah? You're gonna need to look at the phone I gave you, and find the... uh, there are three pictures of the different settlements. Find them and pick which one you like the look of."

John did as Jake had told him, looking at the phone in his hand and finally finding some pictures that sort of matched what Jake had said. "This them?" he asked, showing the screen to the ten foot blue guy.

"What next?"

"Yeah, that's them. You pick the one you want to go to, so that's either Calderville or Acoste since there's nobody down at the farm-place yet that I know of," Jake explained, pointing at the relevant photos for each place, before gesturing at the floor in front of the rings, "and then you gotta stand in that circle over there on the ground, and the ring'll do its stuff. Go on, check it out. Nothing happens to you unless you walk through, so don't worry about that."

Kennex managed to drag his attention back from the size of Jake's fingers and looked at the pictures he'd pointed out, then the ring and the circle on the floor in front of it. He'd been about to walk over to the circle when Jake said the bit about things happening.

"Huh? Nothing happens unless I walk through it? What's gonna happen if I do?" Suddenly Banshee was looking a whole lot less technicolour.

"You wind up in the place where the picture is, that's all," Jake replied with a shrug. He gave a slightly sheepish smile after that. "I don't like it, it makes my tail feel all kinds of freaky, but everyone else seems to be cool with it, so I reckon it's probably just me."
