Na'vi go exploring and swimming
Who: Jake & Neytiri
Where: Palm Beach
When: Week 0, Day 3
What: Exploring, search & recovery
Status: WIP

They had been for a swim first thing that morning, up at the village, before setting off. Afterwards, waving Juliet off up the road to Crossroads, and Micha setting off to explore the trail that lead to the north, around the edge of the harbour, Neytiri and Jake had started exploring the jungle to the south. Climbing through the vegetation for a couple of hours, the jungles here thicker, and closer to what they were used to from home, they had discovered more fruits and had picked a large quantity, that would last them for a good while. Neytiri had also found plants similar to home, that she could weave with, and make things she and Jake would want.

Just as they came back down from higher up the mountainside, Juliet had called in, having arrived in the town, and Jake had spoken with her. Neytiri laughed at him rolling his eyes at the woman over the radio.

Finally they had worked their way down to the beach, to find they were near the southern extremity, Jake had identified as nearly fourteen miles away from the village. Her mate quickly stripped off all the things he was carrying, dropping them on the sand and with a huge grin, had run across the sand.

Neytiri laughed as she watched Jake run toward the water again. His feet splashed through the shallows, tail lifted high as he started to lift his legs higher with each stride, bounding over the waves until he was deep enough to dive, punching through the face of a wave that was just starting to curl over and break. It reminded her for a moment of how different things were, how just a few days ago he had been cursing and cranky, fighting with a chair that was not his. While she was still tentative that those days were not completely gone, she again sent a silent prayer to Eywa that they would be blessed with their current health and state for as long as possible.

A shout from the water drew her attention back, her face breaking into a smile when she saw him waving from behind the waves.

Ikran inbound

Seze stretched her neck, jaws opening to snap at a flock of birds they had been chasing, hunting, as they circled the weyr. Saphira's flames flickered to one side, the flock wheeling from the heat, being driven back toward the two ikran. Just as Seze's jaws slammed shut the ikran felt as if she had flown into a waterfall, as if flying through the rains of the Hallelujah Mountains, and she started to spin. Her wings stretched out, trying to stabilize, and her head turned, first one way, then another, unable to see either Banshee or Saphira, the weyr or the island. Just cloud.

And as she came through the cloud she regained her stability, large eyes blinking as the island reappeared. But it was different island. Bigger. And more islands. A screech broke from her throat as she rose up again, looking for her flying companions, for their roosts, but there was nothing familiar.

Banshee loved hunting. He was good at it, as was only right for a proud ikran such as himself, and he did not mind if he went hunting with his Na'vi or with Seze and Saphira. The strange "birds" that reminded him of tiny feathery stingbats were easy to catch, and there were more than enough of them to feed two ikran and Saphira.

He was just closing in on a kill when he also felt like he'd flown into a lot of water, like he'd gone too close to the lake he liked to throw his Jake into and splashed into it. Screeching his dislike of the feeling, he struggled to find where he was in the sudden cloud. Flying into clouds had never felt like this before, and he continued to screech.

Finally, he broke through the clouds and could not see anything he knew... no, wait. In the distance. Banking round, he headed straight for what looked to be Seze, crying out to her once he was within range. Maybe she could tell him what had happened and where they were.

The ground was different, Seze eying the tall cliffs and dense forest, flying toward Banshee when she heard, then saw him, as she searched for something familiar down on the ground. She saw mountains, but not their home, or the place they had been before. Wheeling she rose up, all wings working to lift her as she flew toward a ridge. When she approached she could see space to land, and did so, her cry going out to Banshee, to tell him where she was.

The ridge she had landed on allowed her a moment to regain her senses, her head shaking and lifting as she waited for Banshee. To one side of the ridge was a stonetree city, small, but different, and the other side of the ridge was more valleys. The mountains were behind them, and when Banshee came close enough she called to him, telling him they should look over the mountains. She again shook her head. It had been a long time since she had had her hunting mate, since she had bonded with Neytiri, and yet she could feel that something was different again, that it was like it should be. Even before Banshee had landed she took off, heading upward, toward the mountains that were long and high.

Banshee didn't even get to land before Seze was in the air again. He cried out his annoyance and it echoed back at him, but he still followed after Seze, catching up with the other ikran quite easily. The up-drafts from the ridge carried them high into the air with hardly any effort, and then they could soar through the sky with ease.

He wanted his Na'vi back. And his Na'vi's Mate. They had been gone through the "door", Jake had called it, but it was wrong and it took their Na'vi away. Banshee wanted them back and he let Seze know.

Seze responded to Banshee with a snapping screech as they reached the top of the mountains. Before she went any further though she reeled away, the sense she'd had before now stronger, and her eyes searched the jungle beneath them. There was definitely something, and she let out another screech, calling for her Na'vi, head turning back and forth as she sought out that familiar figure.

Banking as Seze did, Banshee cried out when he noticed just how much water there was around this place. It was bigger than their last place, yes, but he could still fly in a circle and see water everywhere. His Jake liked water. Perhaps he would be somewhere with water and good sun like in the last place. He let Seze know his thoughts before he sped off towards the water that he could see in front of him.

A flock of brightly coloured birds exploded from the trees, their cries joining the screech of the ikran. Seze snapped at some, the tasty, but feathered morsels quickly devoured, but not causing her to change her searching of the jungle as she flew down toward the water. She followed Banshee who was ahead of her, his shadow flickering across the canopy of trees and vines that covered the land beneath them. It was thick, not many places an ikran could dive down and look, so Seze kept above, head again moving from side to side, searching for her Na'vi. She let out another call, wanting to hear the old familiar call in return.

Jake looked up when Neytiri did, his ears high as he paid close attention to everything he could hear. The sound of the waves faded slightly as he concentrated on the sky, and he scanned the sky yet again. There was something playing at the back of his mind, too, beside his silent bond with Toruk and his bond with his Mate. Grinning, he reached for his bond with Banshee and... huh, that was weird. There was static? Banshee was there, he was sure of it, but there was static in the way.

His ikran, on the other hand, simply flew straight towards the water. He would find his Na'vi, Seze would find her Na'vi, and all would be right again.

It had been weeks since Neytiri had had tsaheylu with Seze, but it had also been weeks since she had felt her ikran as strongly. Her voice broke from her throat as her cry went up, the high-pitched call growing stronger as she looked around the sky, listening intently when she finished.

Seze heard her Na'vi and let out a shriek as she wheeled toward it, flying faster now. Another flock of birds erupted from the canopy but were completely ignored, the ikran's attention focused on seeking out her Na'vi.

Neytiri heard the familiar shriek in answer and leapt across the rocks, stopping further out toward the waves, eyes searching the mountain range and the sky above it.

"Tsatseng! Tsatseng!" she cried, pointing to where there were two large unmistakably ikran-shaped shadows and then discernible shapes, flying down the face of the mountains, toward the beach. Again Neytiri's cry went up, this time with an intensity not heard for a long time.

Jake followed after Neytiri, looking at where she pointed and grinning when he spotted the pair of ikran racing towards them. He hadn't yet mastered the way Neytiri could summon Seze, but he could whistle pretty damn loudly and he knew Banshee knew that sound. Static-filled bond or not, his ikran would respond to that.

Pushing his wet hair back from where the breeze had blown it into his face, he stuck two fingers in his mouth and let out a shrill high-pitched whistle that carried. Banshee replied with yet another shriek, and Jake laughed when he heard it, his tail wagging happily as he turned to look at his Mate. This place was getting better all the time!

Seze screeched, wings stretched to fly faster, and neck craning forward as if that would help her reach her Na'vi sooner. And it was her Na'vi! Not her Na'vi in wrong body!

Neytiri couldn't contain her excitement, leaping into the air and letting out an excited cry as the two ikran approached. She was feeling like she had the first time she'd seen Seze coming to her, back home, after completing Iknimaya, climbing the treacherous path to the largest ikran rookery Mons Veritatis, in Ayram alusìng and becoming a true ikran makto.

Huge wings reached upwards as Seze tried to slow her approach, the air here still different to her home, but she managed to stop in time, and not barrel her Na'vi over, instead landing on the rocks and butting at Neytiri, her huge clawed feet quickly gaining purchase on the wet, slippery surface.

Banshee landed a little way away from Seze so that they didn't bang into each other or knock anyone into the sea. Jake ran over, splashing through puddles and leaping over pools on his way to his ikran, already reaching for his tswin as he ran. He skidded to a halt beside Banshee and quickly formed tsaheylu, letting the ikran know how much he'd been missed.

In return, Banshee let his Na'vi know how wrong it had been while they'd been apart and how much it should never happen again. Jake was inclined to agree.

It was like the first time again, when Seze had returned before, but this time better, as Jake and Banshee were there too! Tsaheylu was formed, and Neytiri wrapped her arms around her ikran's neck in a quick embrace before leaping up onto her, the two launching quickly up into the sky. Neytiri's voice rang out, her cry clear and loud with excitement and joy.

They wheeled back, then climbed again, almost straight up, Neytiri letting out a loud whoop as Seze turned on her wingtip and dived back down, straight toward Jake and Banshee, coming at them out of the sun high overhead.
