An update on the progress down here:
So far the area surrounding Glen Haven has been clear of any major damage. There are some trees down, and a few places have a bit of damage where branches have gone into buildings, but nothing that can't be secured, or repaired. It seems the buildings here were built to withstand the storms, with all having storm shutters and cellars, plus from what we've seen there is a good supply of building materials.
If anyone is interested in farming, this is definitely the place to be. So far the livestock includes, and I'm going of information from someone far more knowledgeable in this than I:
Dairy cattle
Beef cattle
Merino sheep
Llamas
Goats
Chicken
Ducks
Geese
Horses
One of the most amazing things we've discovered, on the dairy farm, is a facility that is completely automated. The dairy herd takes itself in there twice a day, and milking machines go to work. Being the least 'farm' experienced person I know, I am going to leave the explanation of that to someone who actually understands it. But I can tell you, the butter, cheese, yoghurt and milk appearing on the shelves in the refrigerated store rooms is particularly good. We will bring some back when we return.
Also, there are some domestic animals here too, including dogs, who appear to be work dogs, plus cats and of all things, homing pigeons.
If anyone at all is interested in the 'idyllic country life' then you may want to head down here. Except for the rather long drive back up to Crossroads, this place is worth a visit.
