Journal Entry - Wardrobe Choices
I spent a good month debating my clothing choices before coming here, well aware that this was the biggest exposure my own fashion line would get. Many of the pieces I brought are my own, but I also recognize that they aren't appropriate for every occasion. One doesn't always need a party dress and flashy wedges. But I'd like to think I had my wardrobe well covered prior to this exercise. Granted, there were also some items that just took up too much space in my suitcase. Would I really need clothing appropriate for freezing weather? A gown appropriate for a black tie event? That just seemed silly. No matter how much I was allowed to bring, I couldn't bring everything. With my own selections narrowed down, I thought I was covered.
And yet, I think I've doubled my wardrobe today. I can't possibly list out everything without this becoming ridiculously boring, so I'll try to cover the highlights.
I thought it prudent to select clothing that might be needed in extreme weather conditions. I have no idea what they might put us through, but I'm hoping to be fashionably equipped. I picked up a black down jacket meant for sub-zero temperatures, as well as pants, then gloves, a hat, neck warmer, ear warmer, and wool socks in bright colors. I also grabbed a couple of wool sweaters because those are useful when it gets chilly and can be layered.
I then tried to imagine a situation where I might need less clothes, yet not be down to a bathing suit. For that, I selected light weight khaki shorts and a baby blue blouse meant to keep you cool and dry. I picked up some hiking boots and sandals, not sure which would be better, but wearing this outfit made me feel like I was going on some kind of safari.
While I love the bikini I brought with me, I thought about trials that might require me to actually swim, something that I hadn't considered when I originally selected my swimsuit. This time I grabbed a racer-back one-piece that's not exactly attractive, but definitely useful, and a wetsuit. I'm not sure I'll need the wetsuit, but it's best to be prepared, right?
I may be going to extremes, but they gave us free reign to grab more clothes, so why not? I feel like I'm prepared for everything but space travel. I also came away with 3 pairs of jeans, 3 pairs of shorts, 5 leggings, 6 dresses, 12 tops, 4 workout outfits, 2 pair of tennis shoes (one for specifically for running), 4 pair of boots (one meant for snow), and 8 more pairs of shoes.
I can barely close my closet door.
