Hearing that his heart and soul wasn't here after all crushed Rabbit's eager elation into unhappiness. He curled his hand over his heart and was teary at the news. "Oh." he commented mournfully, until the man reached out to him and Puppy snarled, growling again with a snap of his jaws threateningly, nearly knocking Rabbit off his feet as he moved forward. Rabbit yelped and teetered, tugging at the dog's ruff a little in sudden worry. "Puppy, no!" he exclaimed, more upset that his dog was being so mean to the kind man than angry at his reaction. He pulled gently until he'd manuevered the dog behind his legs, petting his ear soothingly.
"I'm sorry, he won't hurt you." Rabbit apologised. He looked down at his ruined feet and nodded. "Yes, sometimes. But I'm okay." he tried to assure with a smile, having lived with it for so long now that his discomfort didn't mean anything. His one scrap of clothing was filthy as was the rest of him and his hair hung lank and clumped with dirt, bruising green and only vaguely visibleunder the dirt on him. "Are you okay?" he wanted to know, the look in his eyes concerned for his new now-friend.
