The smell of the pits was appalling, it always was, but Davey had been there long enough to get used to the copper stench and by now the noise of the crowds and the fights was washing over him too.
He'd had to break up a couple of fistfights already tonight and expected to do so at least a few times more by the way things looked. For now, though, he'd caught sight of the boss and needed to see if there were anything else outside the usual crowd control he needed to do here.
"Alright, boss?" He looked warily down at the dog that was circling near them but it was one of Harry's own pair and while they were buggers he didn't need to worry while the owner was there. "Anyone special I have to keep an eye on here?" He could pick out a number of the regulars he'd had words with over the past few weeks but as far as he knew they were all paid up at the moment. Well, he'd see if that was the case tonight.
