Georgina had been beginning to worry about Miles’ whereabouts until one of the braver staff had stepped up, claiming he’d come home already – when Georgina had been upstairs for all of two minutes of powder her nose – and was in the library reading.
She knocked tentatively at the door. “Miles, darling.” She called. “May I come in?” He was her son after all and that demanded her respect, and she didn’t want to disturb him if he was focused on something important. Besides, if she was too forceful with him now he’d already have his back up when it came to her meddling later, although she preferred not to think of it as meddling but rather as sound advice.
