Adelaide looked to her left at her question about which direction the dog had ran off in. She then turned to look down the street to her right. "I think he went that way, madame," she said finally as she pointed back to the left.
"My parents, miss?" she inquired gently. "Oh, no, madame. My mother died some years ago. And my father is at court today, I was with my nurses." She glanced back behind her before sighing and turning back to the woman. "I have lost them it seems, but that's alright. My third husband always said that it is unfair of me to separate myself from them when they are doing their best to look after me, but they simply cannot keep up." She smiled a little, even though her eyes were lifeless.
