Georgina gasped. "Disown him? Augustus, I couldn't! He's my son and how would that look to everyone? I would have failed as a mother and Percy, rest his soul, as a father if we couldn't curb this silly writing obsession. And who would look after me in my old age? It would hardly be right to impose on Katherine and her husband." She sat back in her chair, surprised he could suggest that although she knew it might one day have to be a decision she made, although Miles could be a good boy. She shouldn't make such fuss about his writing; it gave everyone the wrong impression of him.
"Miles isn't a bad son." She said, twisting her wedding ring round her finger agitatedly. "It's simply that with what happened to his father he's been hurt and he feels this is a way to reveal the hypocrisies of our society. I don't agree with him but I can see why he does it. He needs a strong influence like his father to lead him towards a more productive outlet"
Georgina glanced across the table at Fabian, startled by his sudden change in temperament. Maybe everything wasn’t so well-run in Augustus’s household as she had supposed, or maybe it was simply that he was touched like his mother had been and prone to temper-tantrums when reprimanded. Augustus was such a good man to take care of him.
