Daniel sighed and scratched his head. He drank in the words she was saying and understood them perfectly, and yet he could not entirely sympathise. "Daphne..." he began, looking careworn and sullen, "I appreciate the fact that I have been distant and untowards... I did not mean to be, truly, and I wanted nothing more than to spend time trying to keep things afloat between us after we returned but then Eward came - I spend everything I have on trying to heal the man your family prefer over me. You should not have to shun your family because of their disapproval of our engagement, and I am saddened that I have had such an effect on your life as to mean that you would leave your family so soon after you reconciled..." His eyes were shining and his voice trembled. "I know you would convince me otherwise but I should not come between you and your family and I hate myself for doing so."
