"Er...Non, Je suis desolee. Je pense que....shit," Evonne started, realizing that her nerves had caused her to slip back into French. She stuffed her hands into her pockets, suddenly conscious of how feminine they were. The battle in her head was distracting. Half of Evonne wanted to just get things over with, reveal herself to Mary, put her secret out there so that this situation wouldn't have to be so awkward. The other half thought of her brother, her dear brother, for whom she was risking her life. Would revealing her secret endanger him as well? Would all her work have been for nothing? Evonne thought she could trust Mary, but every day she spent as Yves confirmed the fact that trustworthy people were hard to find. Mary was Evonne's friend, but she could also be Yves' enemy.
Evonne searched for the right thing to say. "I'm sorry, mademoiselle, I'm just...not terribly sure....how to...." Evonne trailed off, her eyes leaving Mary's face to look down the alley. She hadn't noticed until just then that the footsteps in the distance were coming closer. It could be nothing, Evonne told herself as she tried to calm down, but then again, it could be dangerous. There was a pretty high chance that the footsteps coming down the alleyway were malicious. She wasn't sure if they were in a safe area or not. The only thing she could do so that whoever was approaching wouldn't question or look any further was...
Without thinking about it any further, Evonne forcefully grabbed Mary by the shoulders and pulled her close, smashing their lips together in a rough kiss. She wrapped her arms tightly around her friend's waist, keeping her close so that she couldn't escape. Evonne didn't break away until she heard the footsteps disappear. When she finally let Mary go, her eyes were wide as her brain tried to rationalize what she had just done.
"Shit..." and without noticing it, Evonne's voice had slipped up an octave into her normal, feminine tone. She clasped her hands over her mouth, completely shocked, as she watched for her friend's reaction.
