Mary shrugged. "I was certainly glad to see you just now," she said and smiled, although it faltered rather quickly. "Harry never told me he'd seen you lately..." It would have been nice if he had, though. She'd have known where not to go. Lord, her brother and sister were such a pair. Maybe she'd be better off with Slater after all. At least she knew where she stood with him, after a fashion. But those were thoughts it wouldn't do to share- you were supposed to welcome back your sister with open arms, even when they fed you to dragons.
"Why wouldn't I want to see you, anyway?" she asked, genuinely curious as to Ann's reasons.
