"Shopping? I see. That sounds lovely for her. Today while I was ... " she'd paused, and in the back of her mind she just knew pausing wasn't a good thing. Her seeming reluctant may make her look bad, may make her look as if she were foolish? Helene crinkled her brow; the only reason she'd hesitated was because she didn't want to tell Mr. Laurent that she'd been asking for change to buy food -- afraid of his judgement, she continued on whimsy and glanced up to the ceiling as if there might be cue cards there for her to follow along with.
" ... while I was admiring a woman's dress." at least that part was truthful. She did recall a woman with a lovely lacy dress that to this moment she couldn't forget. Inwardly she'd sighed, knowing that now she had nothing else to fabricate in her story. "I passed by a hat shop! It was brilliant, Mr. Laurent. Some of the hats had grapes on them, isn't that clever? I really do like grapes. Do you?" her hands folded neatly behind her back as she looked up at him. Doing her best to study his face. A part of her felt thankful that he was being so kind, after all, most the people she'd worked for were very strict and didn't like talking much at all.
"I know that you like cheese and cured ham." she grinned. She would remember that he liked those things.
