Mercedes at least had the quick reaction to catch the girl and prevent her from falling on top of him, his balance thrown off at the unexpected collision.

"La qualité, sont vous bien, mademoiselle?" He asked, and then chastised himself. In England, they spoke English. It was a pity his was not particularly good. "Are you unhurt?" He asked again, looking to check she had not cut herself. She had not, and probably the only damage was done to her dress. "Mademoiselle, your dress! Forgive me, I am so sorry. Would you like to sit down?"
