Thérèse didn't notice. She was hungry, so food was food, and as far as she was concerned, it was wonderful. Christopher's food was always good. He must have a good chef. "Poor him," She chuckled, spearing another potato and pushing her hair out of her face. "I shall no doubt run into him some day."
She glanced away for a moment as she listened, tilting her head. "The course of true love never did run smooth," She quoted quietly, smoothing her skirts. "I'm lucky. I learnt to love Julien. We were never in love, but he was a darling." She leant back for a moment, taking another mouthful. Once she'd swallowed, she continued. "My lord, better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all, no? I've never been in love."
