In all honestly, Thérèse had committed no crimes besides, perhaps, being naive and slightly cavalier with money. She'd overspent, been slightly careless, but she'd never been taught the value of money. Only now was she learning it. Had she been more aware, then she probably wouldn't be finding herself in the situation she was now.
The 'widowed and miles from home' situation, not the 'stood in an attractive man's dining room' situation. Because he was quite the looker. Not that she wasn't aware of this anyway, but it became even more apparent when he wore such a nice suit, and his hair was combed and neat. Thérèse had to smile, stepping a little further into the room. "Do you like my dress?" She asked softly, gesturing to herself. She was a little self-conscious; black looked good on everyone, made everyone look decent, but colour was harder to pull off, especially such a light one. "It's new. I went to London to buy it. I hope I shan't be chastised for leaving without telling you... I didn't want to put you out, force you into another day of boring chaperoning."
