Miles hung back after the service, pretending to be interested in his mother's tearful memories of Lord Wexley. In actuality, Miles had (with a surge of inward glee) discovered a loose thread in his ruffled linen cuff and was trying to see if he could break the thread off without anyone noticing. Since he had become very good at looking sombre without actually feeling so, he was generally left alone.
He did feel bad about it all- funerals were never pleasant affairs- but Daphne had always been Katherine's friend, and this funeral reminded him unpleasantly of his father's. Miles glanced around, looking from some escape path from the weeping ladies in front of him.
