Katherine rested her hands in her lap, afraid that she'd not be able to stop herself from touching Eward if she left them nearer to him. That ought not to have been the case, for she had self-control enough for them both if she wished it, and it almost unnerved Katherine that it was. Swallowing, Katherine lowered her eyes, nearly embarrassed but partly nervous. Had the situation been different between Eward and his brother, she'd have mentioned Lysander's visit to her, but the tension made her refrain.
Almost uncomfortably, but with a sincerity and warmth uncharacteristic of her, Katherine, responded, "Ah yes, with torment enough to send me crying into your brothers' arms? You were quite cruel to me, you know," she chided, before adding, "but not without more than enough harsh words from my overproud youth."
