"Depends how far away they've gone, Mary." He explains. "He should have come back, of course. He should have made sure you were alright and that your mother didn't loose her mind and run away with a drunk." He continued, looking away from her for a moment, and then back. "I didn't think it was very safe to come back, tell the truth, and I didn't think mum would leave you like that." He finishes simply with a shrug.
"Before I bought this Theatre, before I changed my name, Mary, my name was Harry Roper, and I had two sister- Anne, and Mary. Mary was a little charmer." He smiles slightly, and reaches for his glass, finishing the last measure in a single swallow.
