In the moments it took for Daniel to collect drinks for them, Katherine glanced back to Eward and Daphne as they came into view in the swirl of dancing couples. It should not have made her angry, or even bothered her at all, that they were dancing together. But in thinking that, Katherine could not suppress the thought of herself in Daphne's place.
She shook away the vision when Daniel handed her a drink, and then promptly downed his own. Katherine might have asked if he was all right, but it seemed that Daniel was an easily jealous creature. And so, in good humor, Katherine followed suit. "Cheers to you, my new friend," Katherine offered cordially before lifting the glass to her lips and taking a lengthy taste.
