Katherine blushed, flattered. "Well, thank you, of course. But even a good figure these days does not suit the style. We must all be the smallest we can, else seem behind the times!" She chuckled, adding, "But it does indeed warrant a trip or two to the physician's, as you so say." Katherine did not fail to notice how Daniel seemed to brighten at Daphne's name, and his words proved it all. Smiling knowingly, Katherine answered, "Thank you kindly. I have only ever heard brilliant things of you, Daniel, and I cannot imagine a person I have been more keen to befriend."
Glancing around the room hastily, Katherine hoped to see Daphne. If it was as it seemed from Daniel's words, her friend would surely be showing the glow of a woman a bit in love. But rather than seeing her dear friend chattering with the other women, or even with some men, Katherine saw her held quite possessively in the arms of Eward, moving to the steps of the dance being played along with the other couples. She turned back to Daniel.
