As Thérèse knelt Christopher made a sharp turn and walked to the sides of the church pretending to survey and admire the stained windows. He was not really too interested at all but he did not want to seem disinterested. The priest had noticed him because of his obvious desire to escape and looking curious he began to make his way over. Christopher panicked inside but his face didn't show it. So long as Thérèse was not discovered he should have no problem with talking.
"You are no stranger to God," the priest said slowly, "and you fear him for all the wrong reasons."
Christopher took a breath then exhaled sharply. "With all due respect, I cannot fear anything that does not exist."
There was probably a look in Christopher's eyes which told the Priest not to press whereas he might have done before. With a hesitant look at Lord Blake the man simply turned, making his way back towards the favoured of his flock leaving Christopher to sigh and glance back to the windows.
