It was a terrible sight. The Constable stood there watching while two newer men he was training fished the body of a young girl out of the water. She couldn't have been more than sixteen. Frowning Lucius watched them lay her down next to the water before he crouched down to study her body.
"Make notes," he said to one of the men, who quickly scrambled for parchment and ink in the leather case Lucius had with him. It took several minutes. The girl had been beaten badly and it made the fury inside the young man grow as he imagined what she had gone through. He poked and prodced her body, feeling guilty the entire time. It needed to be done, though. From what he could tell she was a prostitute, she had all the signs of it.
Finally he stood, brushed himself off and sighed. "Get her to the morgue," he told the two men before he looked down. The girls blood was all over the white shirt he was wearing.
Dismissing the two men he pulled on his black coat and made his way down the path towards his townhouse. No matter how hard he tried he couldn't shake the image of that young girl from his head. He had seen it plenty of times before, but it was never easy to forget.
