Katherine looked away, her cheeks hot and eyes stinging. Daphne was right. More than right. The more she tried to convince herself that it was indeed just a phase of attraction to Eward, the longer it would last. "There is no solid good in him," Katherine sighed, angry at herself. "He has only ever behaved well to fool people, or when it suits his interests. He is selfish and too ambitious for his own good, and he keeps his looks by bedding a different woman each night. I hardly see any good to be had from that." But he is gentle, and a considerate lover. A schooled gentleman, who behaves as such even when he acts out. Educated and opinionated, and honest despite that he ought to lie about most of his activities.
Blinking away the burning in her eyes, Katherine looked carefully at Daphne. "We will talk more when it is a better time. I have not divulged you the details, and you deserve them. Not all of them," she corrected herself, blushing, "but some you must hear." Pausing, Katherine moved toward her friend and added mockingly and with a wink, "And here I was thinking you are a wise old bad. Silly me!"
