Katherine let out a chuckle ripe with sarcasm. "Conflicted? Eward? I'll never live to see the day when he feels conflicted over another of his women!" But she knew it was a cover, a means of hiding how scared it made her that she might be the one to cause a change in him. "And it is impossible to change him. Let him put on a facade if he likes if he thinks it will get another lass between the sheets with him. I've no power over him; he only ever listens to his libido and the gold in his pocket." Katherine bit her lip after that, feeling the words stinging in her mouth. It almost hurt to insult Eward.
"Daphne," Katherine said quietly, almost admonishingly, "the point is that I'm...I'm not happy. It's agony to be around him and feel like he can see through me, that he knows things about me that nobody else does, that he's seen all of me and cannot say so because of the implications it would cause. That isn't happiness. I know it is not."
