Katherine swallowed the heavy lump in her throat, her mouth dry. She had not put it past Daphne to notice something was amiss between herself and Eward, but had hoped that she might not pick up on it. Was it really so obvious? She looked away, perhaps a bit ashamed, and then quickly to Eward's retreating back. Glancing over at Daphne, Katherine lowered her own voice lest she divulge secrets to bystanders. "I...I have..." she started, unable to find words. Finally, Katherine settled on, "A good deal has happened since you were last here, Daphne. And quite a bit of it I do not expect you to understand. I don't understand it."
