Katherine listened carefully to Daphne, hanging on to every word. It was indeed rare for her to truly enjoy another woman's company, for so many of them were insipid dolls who did what they were told. Daphne was the opposite, very much as Katherine herself was, and they had been close for it since childhood. They were a team and always had been, as close as sisters.
But when Daphne mentioned Eward's name in the sarcastic tone typical to both of them as children, Katherine nearly jumped, her heart skipping a beat. She had intended to tell Daphne what had gone on between herself and Eward, if only to clear the air and make sure she'd not find out from someone else, but it was perhaps not a good idea. That on top of the fact that Katherine had not even considered the fact that Eward would be in attendance at the hunt. Of course he would be, how could she not have assumed? Swallowing, Katherine replied, "Well, it is indeed charming. He ought to realize he'll never beat you after all of these years."
