Daniel almost went white when he saw she was offering her only money. With a shake of his head he quickly replied to her, hoping that she would not insist on giving him her treasures. "No payment is necessary, little lady," he said kindly, "I never ask for money off patients such as yourself. You need it more than I do, I can spare a few shillings... please put it away, I would not dream of taking it. In fact I refuse."
He opened the door to the room and lit the oil lamp on the wall, taking it over to his desk. "So long as I help you get back to health that is reward enough."
