"You were stabbed?" Edith said in disbelief as she shook her head. "No, the ship sank while you and father were on it," she explained. "Why did you wait so long to return home if you were alive?" she asked, almost as if she was accusing him of something, even though she did not know what.
"Why would somebody stab you?" Edith asked, suddenly switching to her softer side. She had changed a lot since the death of their mother, as she was now the oldest girl and had a habit of taking her spot.
